Everyone in my group of seven was impressed with the condition of the paved loops, the bathrooms and the campsites themselves. None of us had camped at Mather before. Over three nights we used sites 286, 288 and 290 (no more than two sites per night). Of course, it would have been better to use the same two sites for all three nights but two of the nights were "plan B" after the Bravo Dragon fire canceled our back country permit. I would pick any of those sites again, especially 290 since it is the most isolated.I personally enjoyed the brief interactions I had with three different check-in station staff. The young lady managing Camper Services has stellar customer service skills. We were lucky enough to enjoy moonless nights. One of the adult members of our group had not previously viewed the Milky Way; the rest of us not often. I don't think any of us have spent so many hours in close proximity to elk and mule deer. Few things are cuter than a baby mule deer (all ears) with the zoomies. They "run" with a bouncing manuever I now know to be called stotting. So cute.Early one morning I walked 30 minutes from camp on a paved trail through the pine forest to Mather Point to watch the sun rise. My age probably dictates few future backcountry hikes in the canyon. Now that I've experienced Mather, I have a new reason to continue my long history of visits to the Grand Canyon.

The camping area met all my expectations: very spacious and with good shade. The toilets however needed to be cleaned for pretty much my entire stay.Overall is a great camping area in a wonderful place. Highly recommend

Wonderful location with easy access to the shower/laundry facilities, the general store, the post office, and the busses to the Canyon Rim. I do wish they would limit the check-in hours at night, as I had travelers arrive at the campsite next to mine after 11pm and spend the next 2 hours illuminating my campsite with their car headlights as they set up their camp. Ruined my stargazing and prevented me from being able to fall asleep.

We camped for two nights in site #290. It was spacious and flat and there was a lot of open space between the tent site and the road in back of the campground which was awesome. This also made it easy to access the shuttle. It was early March with sub freezing temperatures at night - the campground was not full. Bathrooms were clean. We would stay at this site again or at least on this loop as it is designed for tents/vehicles without generators, and it was quiet.

From the moment we arrived we had absolutely no problems checking in, finding out campsite and setting up our tent. At that time we were able to start relaxing and then exploring the South Rim.

We have stayed at Mather Campground many time over the last 20 years. This stay in Pine Loop was very pleasant. The site was on the edge of the campground so there were only sites on one side and clear forest on the other. Pine Loop is close to the RV Park so there is some noise from large RV's entering and leaving on a nearby access road. however there are no generators allowed in this loop so it was quieter than any of the others. The shower block at the "Camper Services" near to the entrance of the campground has deteriorated somewhat. Water pressure is non-existant and they no longer provide soap or shampoo. Despite this, Mather is a very good campground providing easy access to all GC facilities.

We camped here for a night before hiking into the canyon. We were starting on South Kaibab early, so we went to bed early, but we really liked the location of the campsite and the proximity to the visitor center

The campsite was awesome, the location was awesome. The only negative was being woken up with the sound of heavy equipment and workers, which in my opinion shouldnt start until 7:00 am. This is a vacation spot, it should be quieter than the city.

Mather Campground is close to a number of the (Blue) bus stops. The campground is also close to the Village Market and Deli. The market and deli have just about anything you may have forgotten for your trip. The restrooms in the campground were clean and maintained. The garbage dumpster was near the restrooms. Issues for not rating 5-stars is that the rules discourage "Do not bathe, wash dishes, or do laundry at water spigots. Wash at your site and flush tainted water down the toilet. Do not scatter waste water." It may be best to bring paper dishes/utensils and toss them instead of walking across the campground with a bin full of soapy water to toss in a toilet. Showers were located near the check-in office. This made it less desirable to take a shower for the effort involved in hauling everything you need so far away.

Campground was well maintained. Clean bathrooms. Nice shower and laundry facility in walking distance. The nearby market had everything you need and far more. Only real complaint is that you cant move picnic tables and ours (and most we saw) was not level at all. So annoying to eat and cook on.

We stayed in the northern part of the campground which was tent only, and it was so, so nice. Finally relief from the mad max RV crowd! The spaces are kind of close together, but not bad. Our concrete picnic table was pretty slanted, but doable. Site 290, had good morning and afternoon sun, and was 5 minute walk to the general store which has a great AZ craft beer selection. The northern part of the campground can walk directly to Market Plaza for the bus stop instead of the campground bus stop. Firewood is $10/bundle, so bring as much as you can as you can't scavenge in the part (though surrounded by forest, you can pick up pine cones and twigs for tinder, technically illegal but whatever). Only negative thing I can say about it is that the tram buses start running at 4:30 am and are noisy passing by on the way the trailer park bus stop, but not a big deal. Fire pits are solid and have grates. One thing we noticed was many of the sites are in pretty heavy timber and don't get much sun, so if you are in the cold season you may want to scout google earth and find a more open one.

Campgrounds are well kept, our spot was large and we were able to set up tent towards back area away from others for a more private area.
