Absolutely loved our stay at Mathers Campground! We were there late April, if visiting then, be sure to pack for literally every season. The Campground is beautiful, spots are spacious, can't beat the location. Don't worry if you forget anything, the Grand Canyon Village has a store with everything you may need, prices are surprisingly fair. Bathrooms are as expected for a campground, kept nice and toasty with the cold weather. I was honestly impressed with the showers, there is a private cubby area attached to each individual shower so you can undress in private and kept clean for a campground. All in all, we absolutely loved our experience! Would recommend this campground in a heartbeat!

Mather campground is set in a very nice environment with shade and a lot of space. Elks come visiting.

We stayed a few nights sat Mather Campground while visiting the Grand Canyon. Staff was friendly at check-in, and our campsite was large and clean with close proximity to water. The restrooms during our stay weren't the cleanest, one toilet was out of order, and the dishwashing station at the restroom wasn't working, so we were told to wash dishes at the water spigot, which is something you're generally not supposed to do. Every time I went to wash my hands in the restroom, the sinks were full of oatmeal and other food items as people were clearly washing dishes in the bathroom. This campground was good for wildlife viewing, as we had deer and elk pass through our site during the day, and coyotes came through yipping at night under the full moon. Overall it was a good experience and I'd camp here again, especially with its close proximity to the visitor center, rim, food, trails, etc.

This camp ground has all the amenities one could need. Water is close by and the camp sites are well maintained. They are a little close together, but it is not bad as most guests follow the rules and are polite. I would definitely recommend pitching a tent here!

Great flat campsite for a tent. We were able to use our telescope and see elk all from our campsite. The bathrooms were clean and within a short walk.

Sites were spacious and separated, with lots of trees. (In such a popular place, we expected to be packed in—we were happy to be proven wrong!)

Definitely bring a telescope. The lack of light pollution gives you an incredible night sky. And gas up on the interstate before getting to the park prices jump drastically on the AZ routes and is close to double near the park. Don't depend on the general store for things mayo is about $9 a bottle but other things are reasonably priced. No way to know where your going to get gouged.
