Camp site was good. Rangers on duty were a little weird about hammocks on the site when we were at the site next door, and almost got a citation for not being present on campsite. We thought that was weird.

I had such a great time at Mather Campground! It was my first time at the Grand Canyon. Mather Campground is the perfect spot when visiting the South Rim. The staff are friendly and welcoming. They offered wonderful suggestions of must sees during my stay. The facilities in Mather were well taken care of (bathrooms) and people respected the rules about taking care of garbage, litter, and noise levels while I was there. I had a fire every morning to warm up around and met a ton of great people traveling through. My site was wonderful and I had no problems putting my tent up with plenty of room left over. I'lll definitely stay at Mather Campground again!

This was our first time at rhe Grand Canyon, but we will definitely go back. The campground was beautiful and well taken care of. We were near flush toilets and the bathroom was clean and well stocked. The campsites were spaced well so we didn't feel like we were crowded up with anyone else, and we had ample space to pitch our large 8 person tent (there were only 4 of us there, but a bigger tent is the way to go for our family outings). Check-in was easy, the camp hosts seemed very nice. When we left, there were elk all over the campground, which was fun to see.
Highly recommend this campground

Mather Campground is a great place to stay to see the Grand Canyon. It's a large campground, but laid out so that you have space to yourself, with plenty of trees and local wildlife. We saw several elk and birds. The local ravens will get any food you leave out that isn't in a hard sided container, and will peck open any plastic bags thinking they might contain food, so be prepared to stow all that away unless you are right there. The campground sites have nice heated restrooms with flush toilets and sinks (with only cold water), and hand dryers. If you come in winter or early spring like we did, be aware that many of the water taps will not be turned on or will be broken from freezing. You can get water out of the bathroom sinks, but will have difficulty filling large containers. You may have to search a while to find an outside water tap that works, so I would recommend bringing a large water container with you. The water tastes great. There is no electricity or hookups at the campground. There are showers and laundry available at the main building by the entrance. Be aware the laundry closes at 4:30 pm, and the showers cost $2.50 each. There is a great free shuttle system that will take you around anywhere in the park. Parking is very limited, so I would highly recommend planning to leave your car parked and using the shuttles. The only place I saw that had long lines to catch a shuttle was for the rim trail red line shuttle. I think it's better to hike it yourself if you can, and then just take the shuttle back. The trail is not difficult and is paved almost the entire way.Be prepared for variable weather! We came in early April, and woke up to snow and had very cold temps for a couple of days (down to 9 degrees F at night). Lots of people think the area will be warm because it is desert, but fail to take in account elevation and weather patterns by the canyon. Many camp sites may also be muddy in the spring because of melting snow, so be prepared for that.

Nice campground and location. It's the Grand Canyon. Surely you will find something impressive to see nearby.

Widely spaced wooded sites. Its a big campground but well designed for privacy in each loop. Bathrooms need a bit of updating but thats an NP infrastructure issue larger than this campground.

Great spot! Beautiful trees for hammocking, and convenient to bathrooms. Good-sized site for tents, nice and flat. Only possible downside is that with shuttle service not running to campground this summer, it's about a 1.5mi walk to the rim or you have to drive and risk not finding parking at the Visitor Center. Grocery store is an easy walk, though! Would absolutely stay here again.

it was really great to be close to the overlooks in the park so that sunset and sunrise viewing of the canyon were easy. During COVID, the showers and laundry at Camper Services are closed, but that was not a huge problem. The Blue Line bus shuttle not operating created some problems for one-way day hikes on the Rim Trail, but that is certainly a temporary problem.
