The bus system was very nice. We only used our car once during the four day trip. That was to visit viewpoints that the bus did not access.Elk eating and bedding down in Mather Campground was very cool. They are tame and you could get close without spooking them. Not having to drive was nice as no parking issues, we were able to avoid the crowds.

The campsite was excellent and quiet. The only problem is the shower room closed a little bit too early and we didn't know when it would open the next day so we had to go somewhere else to shower.I strongly recommend camping here!

We camped a bit early for the campground as the water had not been turned on yet for some of the amenities (early April). However, the weather was perfect for camping and hiking. I love this campground and have camped there several times.

A well run campground with thoughtfully laid out sites. Check-in was smooth, bathrooms and public facilities immaculate and the vibe mellow. Crowded, but it is the Grand Canyon after all.

This is a very nice campground, check in/check out was pretty easy, the bathrooms were very clean, they have showers in certain times, I think you gotta pay for that, I didn't use them. The ground was a bit hard but it was flat.

Great check in experience. The campgrounds were well maintained and so were the bathroom facilities

This place is amazing! We stayed at site #32. It is around 5min from the canyon. It has potable water available, flushing toilets, and you can even use the power outlets of restrooms for a short period, like we did to warm up some water for tea. The people working at this campground were super nice and welcoming! We had a great experience! One downside was the fact that their showers were closed when we got there. Apparently it stays open from 6 AM to 12 PM, which is ridiculous. You can check in only after noon, so you cannot shower the day you get there. But that did not mess up the experience. We saw deers and some moose families from our campsite. In fact, one was feeding by our tent when we woke up. Just amazing! The restrooms were clean and well maintained. We were able to enjoy the Grand Canyon a lot more than we expected staying here.
Pros:
- beautiful and spacious campsites
- good flushable toilets
- potable water available
- friendly staff
- close to the Grand Canyon
- lots of experience with animal life
Cons:
- showers closed in the afternoon/evening

The Grand Canyon is amazing and Mather Campground definitely offers a pleasant "camping" vibe that most RV parks don't have. For those wondering, as I was....the bathrooms are modern plumbing and don't smell bad, so don't hesitate to get a spot next to one. The bathrooms were kept very clean.

We have only 2 complaints. First, the showers and laundry at Mather were "closed for the season", but that wasn't made clear on the website when we booked. We ended up driving into the nearby town and buying shower tokens at the private rv park. The bathrooms there were disgusting!

Our second complaint is not with Mather specifically. We hiked the Bright Angel Trail to the first rest house at 1.5 miles. It wasn't until we were there that we found out the drinking water was turned off! I ran out of water in the middle of climbing back up 1.5 miles. Can't anyone be bothered to post a warning that you can't refill your water bottle on the trail?!
