I went during govt shutdown; park was still spectacular and so hope shutdown ends soon and employees are paid. Love Grand Canyon!

It was a great campsite that was totally its own thing, while being just a short walk from the grocery store in the park that has everything you need for a night of camping, including firewood. Then, on a slightly longer walk, you find the rim trail. That first view is breathtaking and has a couple of benches where you can sit and take it all in! I highly recommend this campsite as part of the Grand Canyon experience!

Wonderful stay. They have showers and laundry. Showers are $2.50 (quarters only) for five minutes. They have a change machine but I would make sure you have it, just in case. Spaces are close together but because we went on Thanksgiving, it wasnt too crowded. There was also potable water at the camp site near the bathrooms. Please make sure you throw away your trash, otherwise the ravens will spread it throughout the campground.

Site 272 Pine Loop was great. Flat, good table, not too close nor too far from the restroom. Maybe 10 minute walk to the grocery store and 20 minute walk to the rim. Very easy to catch the blue shuttle.

Was warned of ravens getting into things but they were a non-issue, the songbirds in the morning were lovely, and the shuttle stop was close by and great for the hike in the morning!

Sites are pretty close to each other but lots of trees provide some separation; if you want more solitude try and grab the sites at the end of the loop on the outside. Campground is super close to the market, bathrooms also close to each campsite. We came when there was snow on the ground but campsites were dug out nicely. Also very easy to find the sites. Only con was pretty bad phone signal, had some luck at night but none in the mornings. Hardly a camping concern though, just have some albums downloaded if you want music and turn on airplane for a few days. Cant wait to come back!

I had my reservation, but there were other group took our camp site, unfortunately we couldn't find other site, due to heavy snow, we ended up sleeping in the car in the parking lot. So make sure your site is marked with your name, and specially if you arrive late in the night.

New to us this year was reservations could be made online ahead of time. Last year, in December 2021, Mather campground was first come first served. This year, the day we arrived, there were no open sites on Pine Loop. We had to book elsewhere on this trip, unfortunately. Since the demand is higher, it would be nice if the park team could plow and open an additional loop at Mather campground for small campers and RVs.

The location of the campground within the park made it very convenient to services and the shuttle. We were able to get a "first come" site for our mid-October one- night stay by showing up at the registration office first thing in the morning.

The campground I originally booked was too rocky with big rocks to set up our tent. Good thing the spot next to us was open and we were able to use that campsite instead. Its a big campground to accommodate lots of campers but needs to be better maintained with the removal of big rocks on campsites. Grateful for the showers and the frequent maintenance but even with that theres a fowl smell of sewage Overall it was wonderful to camp out under the Milky Way and wake up to a handful of dear next to our tent.

Easy and convenient for Grand Canyon. Shuttle stop and the shower house were both close to the campground.Spacious locations with trees for shade.

This is a heavily used campground and it does quite well under the circumstances Lots of serious potholes in the roads. Would be nice if there was a way to obtain sites if people don't show up. A person spends way too much time in the lineup to get a first come, first served site and there aren't enough of them. We're at the Grand Canyon and why all this "lining up"??? Would also be nice if there was a way to purchase quarters for the showers because every time I've been in the building the change maker is out of change. Services area bit poor at the actual campground site, I feel.

I visited the Mather campground between Oct 16-18 (pine loop - site 274) for tent camping with family. Our overall experience was fine but visit the campground only if you plan to go to Grand Canyon and want to save bucks staying in a costly hotel or lodge. If you plan to visit this for only camping purposes, I feel there are much better campgrounds than this and I havent even visited that many. We visited potato patch campground couple of months back and it is superior to this in every sense. What I liked about Mather: very close to Grand Canyon off course; restroom is clean (We avoid any campground with vault toilets only) and thats pretty much it. What I didnt like - the campground surface is full of pebbles and stones so not safe for walking if going with toddlers; nothing to roam around nearby on the roads; very windy during the time that we visited so plan accordingly; lots of hungry crows hovering over the area so be careful not to leave stuff outside, we did a rare mistake of keeping the trash bag outside even though it was completely tied up but imagine my horror seeing every bit of trash lying all around the campsite by 7.30 in the morning. Spent almost 30 minutes cleaning everything up in freezing cold (temp was no more than 3-4 degrees Celsius) - lesson learnt!!

We loved pine loop campground, it was nice and dark. Everyday when we woke up, we saw elk and and deer walking through the camp sites. It was so awesome to see them wandering by. We stayed for 5 days and 4 nights and had enough time to see all the major sites: the desert tower, hermit’s rest, the geology museum, Mather point. We were very close to the village to buy ice and firewood or a bite to eat. The free shuttle rides were beneficial as well. We also enjoyed the ranger talks in the morning and evening. They all also have shower and laundry facilities if you need them. The Grand Canyon pine loop camp ground is the campground for tent camping and we loved it.

Beautiful campground with very spacious sites. I was amazed how far back off of the road we were able to camp. The sites were beautiful with plenty of shade, elk meandering through and curious raven sentries that seemed to enjoy talking back.
