We had a very spacious tent pitch on the edge of the campsite. The toilet block was a bit outdated and wasn't cleaned once during the three days we were there. The showers at the entrance to the campsite, which you had to pay to use, were also somewhat outdated but were clean and nice and warm. You can catch the shuttle bus at the entrance to the campsite, which takes you to the center.

Camp sites are not on top of each other, good amenities, and plenty of shade

In spite of being full, the campground felt empty and nights were quiet. Facilities were clean. One morning I hiked from the campground along a power line trail over to the South Kaibab Trail and down to some random spot below Cedar Ridge. Proximity to everything, including the General Store, is really nice.

Fantastic site, great team to welcome us. Loved how close we were to the bike path and trailheads. Watched the sunrise and set within 1 mile of the campground. Rangers were fantastic!

Great location, facilities were in good clean condition and heated (it was chilly when we were staying). We had a great time at our campsite and other campers were respectful of quiet hours and good neighbors.

We LOVED how quiet and clean the campsite was.

this is a beautiful campground, that is almost entirely dark (except for lights coming from the bathrooms - which I will ask them to work on) - so you get lots of great stars and good sleep. on a Tues in mid Oct the other guests were very quiet and I heard no one whatsoever after 10pm. can't wait to stay again!

Stayed at 199, very good site with tree coverage for multiple tents. Conveniently close to the restrooms but not so close to be disturbed by the foot traffic. Recommended.

Roomy open campground-felt like we had the place all to ourselves! Restrooms very clean and close by. Great experience and very pleased with this campsite

Well maintained! We had a few elk pass through our site, which was amazing to see. There are walking trails to buses, which will take you all over the park for free. Camp ground is very close to the general store, which is the size of our regular grocery store.

My family and I loved camping at Mather Campground!!! My first recommendation is to book early! Also, bring money for showers! It's $2.50 in quarters for a 5 minute shower. There is a change machine. The water is warm. The campground as a whole is fantastic. There are bathrooms nearby no matter where you are camping. Everything is kept clean. There is a paved trail system that is accessible from the campground. I loved walking at daybreak while my kids slept a little longer. Also, it does get chilly at night, even in the summer, so be prepared for that. Major viewpoints for the Grand Canyon are just a short drive (or walk or bike ride) away from Mather Campground. My oldest son and I walked about 1.5 miles from the campground to Yavapai Point one evening to watch the sunset, which is a memory I will treasure forever. I've been back home for a few days, and I am already aching to go back. If camping is out of your comfort zone, I encourage you to go for it! Pack a warm sleeping bag and air mattress and soak in the experience. (Oh, and don't forget to LOOK UP if you are outside at night, the starts are INCREDIBLE!!!)

Great spot! Stayed 3 nights at the end of November. The bathrooms were nice and kept clean. Quiet hours were observed at night. Decent space between camp sights.

Great campground! Easily accommodated a wide variety of tents clear up to larger trailers and fifth wheels. Sites are reasonably private for a National Park Campground. Clean and well maintained flush toilets and sinks.

The campground was beautiful and quiet, and the free shuttle system to nearby points of interest was superb. It allowed us to charge our car at the EV charger within the park while still seeing all the sights. I have rarely stayed anywhere that was planned better, and of course the canyon was stunning!

I love this campground. I’ve stayed here before and will continued to do so for any south rim visits. Some loops are better than others as far as how spaced out the sites are, but I think if you can grab any spot here, take it.

Maple Loop site 199 was a fantastic stay in GCNP during the first week of April 2021. Herds of elk walk through & sit in the campsites throughout the day. Quiet sites w/ great proximity to all the attractions in GCNP. Stars in the evening were as vivid as anywhere we've ever been. Highly recommend.
