Great campground, helpful camp host. Close to South Rim trails.

The spots are set up so you might not have your RV door facing your site and the are not level. Lots of great birdwatching and wildlife! Easy access to the shuttle, too.

This was my first visit to Grand Canyon and I wanted to stay in the park just to be able to access the sites easily. Mather Campground was easy to get to and reservations made it fast to check-in, get directions to the camp site, ask questions and get a general idea of the area. The dump station is near the check-in area. Note that the dump station has two fresh water faucets on the other side of the sewer dump, so you can't easily rinse the dump hose unless you connect your own hose from the faucet and run around your rig to the sewer dump location. If its busy, I hate to keep others waiting who also want to dump or just get fresh water.

Its a good walk on a paved walkway from the campsites up to the Visitor Center. From there, its a short walk to the Mather view point area on the rim walk. You can walk a lot and I logged about 5 - 6 miles with my two little doggies. If you have a bike, its easier to get to the store, visitor center and so on. You can drive the Desert View road that runs out eastward with many stops to see the canyon from the rim. This is a must do. They are doing prescribed burns so the smoke may affect the rim view at certain points. Hopefully they will be done soon.

We had a wonderful time during our visit. The campground is clean and well organized, even with so many sites. The site we reserved was exactly as described on recreation.gov so no surprises on arrival. Can't say enough about how nice it is to be camping in the park just a short bike ride from the canyon rim. A completely different experience from staying outside the park. We hope to return for another visit before too long.

Beautiful and clean camping. Friendly and helpful staff. Plentiful deer and elk to watch.
