We camped at Mather for two nights before Thanksgiving, knowing ahead of time that it would be very cold, and that we couldn't start any fires and had to bring in our own water (due to a water main break). Site 136 was nice and flat, with only a few rocks in the tent areas. Our loop was only a quarter full, and it was nice to have our own section to ourselves. HOWEVER, site 136 sits near the main road in and out of the park, and there are rumble strips that you can hear at all hours of the night, which significantly increased the night-time noise. On our last night, we had some very rude fellow campers arrive after quiet hours, shine their headlights onto our tent for at least 10 minutes, and slam their car doors continually while they set up their site. They were gone before quiet hours ended, leaving almost as loudly. While we had no control over our neighbors, we could have looked more closely at the location of our campsite to the main road. Overall, the campsite was nice and had great shade. Bathrooms were clean. Check-in was easy and staff was friendly. It was a great campground. I just wish the rumble strips weren't so close to our campsite!

This was a nice campsite with a lot of room, flat areas for multiple tents, and reasonable shade. Reasonably close to the bathrooms without being right next to them. Next to a path the Elk walk through.

Clean bathrooms with flush toilets are an excellent feature! Campground was very quiet at night and peaceful. Love the Grand Canyon. Also close to restaurants and general store.

Classic, typical campsite with normal amenities and comfortable spot for tent camping.

We had a great stay and overall, our experience at the Grand Canyon and Mather was very pleasant, especially how bike friendly the area was! The checkin process was very easy and our site was as expected. Nice to have a good concrete table and the design is very good, one way with lots of pull-outs and pull-throughs for the spots. Our only concern is that the park and campground are both pretty busy, and we didn't expect the highway noise to be as high as it was late into the night. I guess lots of people stay for sunset and then drive out, something we heard clearly from our tent (lots of trailers, diesel trucks, etc.). Also, whoever installed the paper free hand driers in the bathrooms meant well and I'm glad they are saving paper towels, but their high-pitched wail is quite unfortunate. For the size and location, we can overlook the noise and would still recommend it!

A total of 4 nights. Site 136 was perfect for us. It was very close to the restrooms, dumpsters and water. It had a nice picnic table, grill for campfires and a parking for 2 cars. The showers were a less than 10 minutes away along with the shuttle bus. At one point the restrooms were clogged but were fixed within a day. The sites are also pretty close to your neighbors so be aware. Even with that we had enough room and shade for our tents and chairs to feel spacious. This campground will always hold a special memory.

Great and intimate campsite, wish I would have known there are only morning showers prior to my arrival.

Campsites were spacious and not at all crowded. The staff was super helpful. We had a wonderful time - even had an elk wander through the campsite one morning!

The campground is extremely well kept as were the facilities. We were a little caught off guard that the showers and laundry were still inaccessible due to COVID-19. I completely understand why but the information was just not readily available until arrival.

Amazing campground so close to the South Rim and free public transit, make sure you go below the rim and also walk the rim trail a bit away from the bus stop overlooks for your own peaceful serenity.
