The staff was friendly, the campsites were large, the bathrooms were clean and the elk were amazing.

Mather is a great place to camp if you want to be right next to the South Rim. Although it’s a large campground, it never felt too noisy and the sites were a good distance from one another. The amenities at the campground were amazing, with coin-op laundry and showers, as well as a full sized grocery store where you can buy ice and firewood. The only downside is that the restrooms and water spouts are too spread out, so depending on your site you may have to walk a bit. Overall a great place to stay while visiting the Grand Canyon!

The campground is great. The exploitive policy of refunding NO money for cancelations EVEN far ahead of time is akin to robbery. I did not use my spot as plans changed, but I also did NOT cancel as a matter of principle as I will not have my spot sold twice. The spot could have easily been sold to another camper in need and I should have been able to obtain a refund for canceling ahead of time. THIS IS A HORRIBLE POLICY THAT ONLY HURTS ALL INVOLVED, EXCEPT FOR RECREATION.GOV!!!!!!
Great campsite. We were in the back of juniper loop, so it was less crowded than other sections. We had trees and shade. Bathrooms were clean and close by. Pay showers were good and laundry. I highly recommend camping in the park. We were there for three days and saw almost everything, including a hike into the canyon. Make sure you bring masks for the shuttle bus. I would have rated excellent but many things are closed for covid still
So nice to be out exploring this year. I have been to the Grand Canyon 3 times but never camped. We camped for two nights. This is a quiet campground. Seemed like fires were out by dark and people were up moving around 4-5am. (We were not on that program!) We had our bikes and that was really nice. Easy to ride into the Village and the road S. of the Village (Hopi Point, Mojave Point) was only open to bus and bike traffic. Like Zion, a great way to see the park without being in a bus. The restrooms were open but the showers were closed. Lots of coyote calls at night. Lots of birds chirping at 5am. Elk walking through camp. Friendly hosts. It was the best.

The campground is very well kept and bathrooms in the Juniper loop were super clean. Running water, flushing toilets, and electric outlets in the bathrooms! Spotty cell service (T-mobile). Some of the campsites looked very small and cramped but our site was very spacious, with tons of privacy! We stayed at site 159. Enough space for 2 cars. The only negative is that the site is very close to the road, so on the days you'd like to "sleep in" (tent camping), you will not be able to due to the passing cars' noise. I would definitely book this site again! Due to COVID, Laundry and shower facilities were closed :( But we did bring one of the solar heating 5-gal shower bags and boom, we showered!
