Mather Campground was the perfect base for exploring the Grand Canyon. The sites are spacious and shaded by tall pines, offering a peaceful atmosphere. Being just a short walk from the South Rim and the shuttle stop made it incredibly convenient to catch sunrises and explore the trails. The restrooms were clean, and having access to showers and laundry nearby was a big plus. We even had elk wander through the campground, which was a delightful surprise. It can get chilly at night, so pack accordingly. Overall, a fantastic camping experience that I'd highly recommend.

Great sites, good access, lots of shade. Showers were great except for the fact that you had to put quarters in but other than that it was good

The Park Ranger that helped me register my reservation was super helpful and friendly. I felt like a had a personal attendant for recommendations of trails and activities who inquired in an appropriate way each day. The campsite was clean as were the facilities. I had a very positive experience and look forward to returning.

This campsite was excellent, Very private with no site right next to you and plenty big enough for just about any size tent.

Very nice campground. Spots for tents were nice and level. Everything was clean. Neighbors had an RV with a generator going, and the ranger came by and asked them to turn it off (no generators allowed!) Highly recommended for a Grand Canyon stay.

Great place to stay before heading into the canyon.

My brother & I were here in the winter, there was some snow on the ground, but it was nice. $18.00 a night I couldn't believe how cheap it was. The camp sites are very nice & very CLEAN. I had to get back to work but he stayed an additional 3 days. No trash hanging around. The rangers were great. Wildlife thru the campground. Don't feed them or leave anything out for them to eat. There is a large grocery store in the park so it you forgot anything you have a place to buy what you need. What can you say about the Grand Canyon, it's great. They have a Post Office, lot of stores to buy souvenirs & great places to eat.

Great campground overall. I had to clean the site though, lots of garbage, and the garbage receptacle was quite full. It looked as though it hadnt been emptied in a while. One ranger drove through about 4:30, and later a camper van parked right next to my site and spent the night, basically pretending they were with me. There was no one to report it too so I just left super early and drove home. Please dont open camping areas unless there is some controls, especially in a National Park!

We loved this camping site. Just about every spot is close to the restrooms. It was easy to locate and set up our tent, etc.

We stayed at Campsite 283 in the Pine Loop for 5 nights. We had a fabulous time. The site is very spacious and private and has plenty of shade with trees to hang out hammocks. There are two bath houses within a short distance. On your way back from the bathroom in the middle of the night, look up! The night sky was amazing! Could see the Milky Way. Laundry and shower facilities are located at the entrance of the campground. Will need quarters or bills smaller than 20’s with you. The grocery store, gift shop, deli and the Tavern restaurant are also within walking distance. Less than half a mile from site 283. Elk visited us almost every day. We really enjoyed our stay. Would go back here again!

We loved our camp site, 283. There was plenty of space and bathrooms were clean and convenient. We saw mule deer and elk in the campground. The ravens are for real though! We left a jug of water our for a really small amount of time, thinking it would be ok, only to return to it on the ground with several holes in it. 283 had plenty of room for our tent, canopy and 5 bikes! If you are torn between camping in the park or staying outside and driving in, stay in the park!!! One of the best parks we've camped in. Our kids loved riding bikes around the loop and we could easily ride bikes to the camp store. We also rode bikes to the Grand Canyon Visitors Center, took the shuttle to the Geology Museum, shuttled back to the VC, then rode our bikes to the back entrance of the campground and saw a bunch of elk! That bike ride was one of our kids favorite things we did at the park. The shuttle system is great and we took advantage of it. If we had not been camping with our MIL (she didn't want to bike as much as we did), we probably would have rode our bikes to the main shuttle stop at Bright Angel to avoid the crowds. Once we were on the bike paths we were almost completely alone. We hiked the rim trail from Bright Angel Point to Hopi Point, then took the shuttle to Hermit's Rest, jumping off at overlooks on the way up. Get ice cream at Hermits Rest and enjoy the view! We took the shuttle all the way back down to Bright Angel Point, jumping off at overlooks. Be aware that the shuttle only stops at some overlooks on the way up or down- pay attention to the map in the shuttle bus!!The next day we hiked a little bit of Bright Angel trail- only to the second tunnel- my MIL was getting hot and we didn't want to push her too much. It was very cool to get a taste of what it was like to be in the canyon. The Geology Museum is small, but cool (at least my son and I thought so). We got apps & drinks on the patio at Yavapai Lodge one afternoon- it was lovely.

We camped in out tent in the Pine Loop. It was great to be with other tent campers and not surrounded by RVs. The elk visiting the campsite was a bonus. Great experience.

Great spot with plenty of shade under the trees. The site only has a neighbor on one side. Only a couple of sites from the bathroom which were clean as well.
@EmilyV428 · Camped on May 11, 2021 at Campsite #283
Beautiful campsite, elk just hanging out politely in the woods right outside our tent door, great facilities but sadly the dish sink water wasn’t connected. Canyon was a quick ~1mi walk away! Only downside was the general store was out of firewood! Plan ahead just in case. Highly recommend the Pine Loop.
@julianee424 · Camped on Mar 15, 2021 at Campsite #283
The camp sites are well spaced and we didn't feel crowded. Some of the bathrooms were still closed which made it a long walk but not undoable. The shower facilities are still closed. Firewood was readily available (although pricey) and since it had snowed there was no fire ban. We did have to move campsites every night because I couldn't get reservations all in one stretch. So book early!
