We stayed in the Maple Loop site 189. Very far in the back so a bit of a walk if you are wanting to catch the shuttle. There is a great trail to the Visitor's Center at the start of the loop that takes you on a nice walk complete with elk! Elk even wandered into our site several times. How wonderful! Overall it's a nice campground, but it was number 6/6 on our three week adventure and definitely the lowest on our list. Not as private as other national parks but it's to be expected from one so visited. Bathrooms were ok.

It's a beautiful campground. There's space and trees and elk come thru. It's wonderful. I don't understand why there were so many empty sites when I couldn't get a reservation for the next day. It seems unfair.

Great camping ground very close to the south rim. Really enjoyed being there with my family, having good times around the camp fire and bbq

Great campground. Although very large it provides a sense of privacy. One of your favorite places to stay.

Beautiful campground. Amazing access to the rim. Sites are spread out well enough and there are nice wooded areas in between. We stayed in 189, maple loop. Would def go back! The Grand Canyon is impressive.

I visited in the 60's as a kid. I brought my children to the park in the early 90's. Coming back as an older adult you are still in awe of the views. It is just incredible. Camp sites are large and generously spaced which makes it feel remote. The campground was clean and quiet. Water was close by and easily accessible. The bike/walking trails were the best system of trails we've ever been on. Paved and swept. Bus routes are close and you can basically visit the entire park without moving your vehicle. We had dinner at Arizona Steakhouse with an amazing view of the canyon. We were able to get a table for two by arriving when they opened. If you want a reservation, you'd better be online a year in advance. We took a 45-minute flight around the canyon that was absolutely incredible. Highly recommend. Only issue we had was re-entry into the park. There is no lane dedicated to those who have already paid, you have to wait in the que, which on one day was over an hour. For a park that sees over 5 million visitors a year, it is a well-oiled machine. Crowds are spread out really well. We had no issues all. It was a great trip at one of the coolest places on earth.

Mather is quiet, clean, private, wooded, and well maintained. A short walk gets you to the free shuttle all over the park

This was our first time at the Grand Canyon and Mather Campground. We stayed 3 nights. The first night it was snowy. The second and third were blue skies. We saw deer and a huge herd of elk every day. A quick drive to the Rim of the Canyon. A fantastic time!
