Nicecampground. Elk and ravens. Lots of headlights and a bit noisy, but large sites with lots of rooms for tents.

A lot of space for each tentsite. Very quiet and as natural as possible. Nicest campground we had in all famous national parks

Very well organised. Despite the massive numbers of people using the campsite, we never had a problem nor the campsite felt overcrowded.

I am very impressed with Mather Campground and the whole Grand Canyon National Park Experience. My family met there for a family reunion type trip. We came from California and Oklahoma. We found the campground in excellent condition. We were mesmerized by the Elk grazing right beside our tents. The campground was extremely clean of human trash and we were required to leave as little a footprint as possible. I found that very encouraging and I am very grateful that you maintain the environment the way you do. It is exceptional!

Sadly, both nights we were there, there were MANY unoccupied, but still reserved campsites. It's too bad those folks do not consider others who are looking for a site all the way up to the day of arrival. We were able to pick up both nights, last minute, due to the kindness of whoever was considerate enough to bother canceling their visit.

I am not sure what the solution is, a penalty of some sort perhaps.

Amazing campground, 5 min drive from the south rim. Lots of elk roaming around and one even snuck up on us and got within 10 ft from our tent when were next to the fire. Had to have seen at least 15 elk during our 1 night stay. Highly recommend if you're looking for a spot to camp near the GC.
