The majestic Grand Canyon draws so many people to it that there are crowds everywhere. The campsite has lovely trees and vegetation. But be prepared to be squashed into a campsite in very close proximity to your neighbor campers. There is no privacy, unless inside your tent. There is no quiet you can hear everything that happens, if a baby cries two campsites away everybody hears it. If somebody gets up to pee everybody hears it. And the loud noise from the road starts at 5 am and picks up in volume from there! Also, I wish they would clean the bathrooms a bit more frequently. So, despite all this, there are great bicycle trails and a free shuttle along the south rim, the views are so beautiful!

We visited the Mather campground in the New Year of the first week of January. It was snow covered and clean. It is a shady campground so much colder with less sun than at the rim. The bathrooms were warm. The trail and roads were slick with ice. I wish I had expected this and brought ice cleats to hike. We had to use the shuttle because of this. The roads through the park shut down after we arrived, due to a storm forecast and so it was a very long drive out of the park to Flagstaff and then around the canyon to Utah the next day and we missed out on Zion. But we got to go to another one of my favorite places instead. So, that's the way it goes sometimes. Worth all the inconveniences to see the Grand Canyon again!

Well organized campground, crowded at times, but that's part of the deal. My only complaint is the smoke from campfires. When there is no breeze, the smoke hovers over the campground, smells bad, makes it hard to breathe, penetrates everything. I would like the campground much better if no campfires were allowed.

This was a nice camp. We accidentally booked a "rocky" site and there was little room for the tent, but it worked out. Our parking spot was uneven and kind of small, but worked ok for a small car. Quiet at night, clean bathrooms. Separate building for showers/laundry (very small shower stalls with relatively low water pressure). A nice market nearby (firewood for $10 a bundle) and very central to all the tram routes and south rim views. Will definitely visit again!

Great campground, and location is awesome. We enjoyed 3 nights camping, used the shuttle service to get around. The market was great to pick up a few conveniences. Restrooms in the camp were clean and convenient and having a dish cleaning sink was great. We would recommend this campground to anyone visiting the Grand Canyon South Rim.

Someone had their tent setup on the site I had reserved, but the rangers were very friendly and helpful and found me another site on the same no generator loop. Bathrooms were clean, and campground is close to the general store

Showers were only open from 8 or 9am until 1pm. It would be nice to get showered at the end of a hot day.

The tent loops are always simple and provide ample space, even for some large tents at times. Very straightforward and convenient!

The host who checked us in was very helpful. Our camp site had its fire ring 5 feet from the only spot to pitch a tent. This is too close so we could not have a fire for the 3 nights we where there.
