It's unfortunate that the wealthiest nation in the world can't provide modern, accessible camping facilities at its national parks. Desert View is a lovely location, but the condition of the facilities is woefully inadequate for modern camping equipment.

Very close to the Grand Canyon. Next time we would probably park on the parking itself (free of charge).Gas station and mini market available

Very nice location. Camp host on site. Plenty of trees for shade.

Nice, quiet, fairly level, water available and flush toilets with warm water sinks. What more could you ask for?

Beautiful campground. Nice and quiet and right next to one of the better viewpoints on the South Rim

Being located at the east end of the park, this campground and the surrounding areas were far less crowded than those near the village. While people on the west side were fighting for parking spaces and sitting in traffic, the east side was remarkably peaceful. The Desert View campground is much more picturesque than the website photos suggest. The sites are well laid out with plenty of vegetation between them. Alan, the volunteer host, does an amazing job maintaining the campground and is a wealth of knowledge and helpful insights. He has a true connection to the canyon and his affection for it shows. Alan looks after the campground as it was his own; he is a true steward of the environment. One of Desert View's benefits, aside from being just a few minutes walk from superb views, is its easy access to Lees Ferry, less than two hours away. That's where Colorado River kayak and raft trips through Horse Shoe Bend launch. Floating through the canyon - at times with no one else in sight and just the sound of rippling water and an occasional jumping trout - was an experience that I doubt will ever be replicated. Two bits of advice - rely on Recreation.gov for current reservation information. People were constantly showing up, thinking sites were first-come-first-serve, when reservations were required and the campground was sold out. And remember, the closest showers are at the Mather Campground about 25 minutes away.
