I have enjoyed Fish Creek Campground since I was a little girl. Now I am in my 50s and still enjoy the trails, hiking to Rocky Point, Fish Creek by the amphitheater and the secluded campsites with all of its mountains and right off Lake McDonald. On a hot day, the lake is incredible to relax and take a dip to cool off. So many things to do in Glacier, but you have to camp to really enjoy it all. See you next year Glacier!

We stay here every year, but this year had a few unexpected bumps. First, the loop we were in didn't have working bathrooms, which we found out when we arrived. There were portable outhouses, but they were not being emptied frequently enough. It definitely became a sanitary issue as the porta-potties reached near to overflowing before they were emptied. The volunteers at the campsite were trying to get them serviced more quickly, but it was unclear what was preventing that. The other big hiccup involved the Going to the Sun road. We've stayed at Fish Creek for many years and this was the first time that staying at the campsite didn't guarantee us access to the Going to the Sun Road. Had we heard about this in advance, we would have tried to get those passes, but this change of process wasn't indicated on the campsite reservation. Once we were at the campsite, we found out we couldn't reach the hikes we planned to do. We were told to book a pass at 7pm the night before we wanted to use the road, but this requires reliable internet access which the campsite doesn't have. That was pretty frustrating. The recreation.gov website isn't very accessible to folks who are camping with very limited cell / internet access. We were also interested in visiting the north fork entrance, but those passes were impossible to get with limited cell service.

So.... We have tent camped in many places and at many campsites over a couple of decades. This was by far the worst. Our campsite was so small that the tent site snuggled up to the campfire circle (within a couple of feet) with the table to our immediate left. In other words it was a postage stamp at best. We could hear and understand full conversations from our neighbors on both sides. Everything at this campsite is packed in tight. The Lake was great and the campsite trail was great. If you go to the park.... stay one night here and then move on. Karin - Denver
