Amazing campground. Camphost and Im guessing additional employees came through and cleaned bathrooms and took out trash it seemed like at least twice a day. Seems to be very well cared for and very clean.

Upper loop backs up to Forest Rd 90 so you will hear traffic if you take any of the sites from 39 to 33. That said, the sites are nice, plenty of shading from the tall firs, enough vault toilets to keep smells down, The Lower Falls are lovely with a nice deep hole at the base. The Lewis River trail from Lower Falls to Upper falls is nice, easy enough for these 67 year old legs. We found some lovely Lobster Mushrooms ( late September camping dates). The Lower loop is along the river and some distance from the road. Nearest ice and cell service is 20 minutes from campsite.

August 2023. The campground was quiet and beautiful. The sites were very spacious, allowing for multiple or very large tents. The falls were amazing, and despite the popularity of the area, it was easy to find solitude and calm. It seems to be a very family-oriented place overall, especially the upper loop, with lots of kids. Hiking was great. The Lewis River Trail was beautiful upstream and down. Lots of swimming holes! I would advise bringing lots of drinking water. I do not know how often they test the drinking water, but it was cloudy, yellow, rusty-tasting, and very unpleasant. Only one of the very old hand pumps was working in the campground at this point.

Wonderful, quite, and beautiful campground. The camp host was very helpful as well.

It is a great campgrounds with lots of tall trees and wooded areas between sites. The bathrooms are cleaned frequently which is a relief because they can can get pretty nasty and smelly in the hot summer weather. The water from the water pump was so refreshing and pure. Must be from a spring. I just wish they would let people who are camping to use the parking lot in the recreation sites without a reservation. We would be happy to pay for the parking. And with just limiting people who can use the parking to people with reservations and ones who are camping in the area, would still control the number of people and keep the road from being crowded with parked cars. We decided to stay an extra night at a first come first serve campground and because we didn’t have a reservation for the recreation site at lower falls, and couldn’t make a reservation since there was no cell service, we had to walk 3miles on the road/4 miles on the trail to get to the lower falls area from Horse camp…

The facilities were fine enough and the site itself is nice. However, we were not forewarned that they do not sell firewood at the campsite like others in the Gifford area (that we are used too). We purposely did not purchase any because of the message stating you cannot bring any from outside the area. Typically this would not be a big deal but the closest place that sold firewood was 45 minutes away. Be forewarned that they close at 5, which we also were not aware of until we drove all the way out there (arriving at 6).
