This is a primo campground usually (our family has visited for seven decades) but the fire prohibition including use of campfire rings really impacted the quality of our two night this mid August. There was also no running water due to systems under repair. Even though there was significant rain in the region the previous week the USFS did not lift the prohibition. Perhaps the dry terrain did not show significant enough changes and/or fine tuning of status is not possible). Finally the camp pit toilets are getting quite old and are poorly maintained, leaving a disgusting odor and ambience. All that said, the beauty and history of the locale still made the visit worthwhile.

This was a lovely quiet and clean campground. We brought in our own water which wasn't a problem.NO bugs. Perfect!!

We love this campground. Our favorite day trips are the Snow & Bench lake hike. Of course all the hikes at Paradise. We also like hiking in to Packwood lake for the day. The Silver Falls loop trail is always amazing and the Grove of the Patriarchs is also worth seeing.

Enjoyable time. Having good campground hosts seems to make all the difference. The hosts were excellent this year. Whereas last year, they weren't around, and the year before, they walked out. Plenty of firewood to buy onsite, without having to find some in town. No rowdy campers this year, a real plus! A peaceful relaxing trip. A family favorite campground since the eighties.

There was a problem with my reservation for a particular favored campsite at La Wis Wis. The campground hosts said it was double booked by recreation.gov. There happened to be a multiple site that was not reservable and almost as nice, but we were not happy having to search for one that was inferior to our historic favorite. If we had arrived later in the day, we would likely have been out of luck for a streamside site.A full explanation of the mistake was never offered. Beware that the reservation system or those implementing it at this site were not reliable. Unless systems have improved, and given the popularity of the location, you should brace yourself for challenges, arrive early, and make backup plans accordingly.
