The camping spaces were spacious, but fairly damp when the lake level is high. Bathroom and shower facilities could use updating.

Nice campground. Only complaint was the site was not wide enough for the steps to sit on level ground. Site 108.

Cicadas were deafening during the day while we were there. Turkey buzzards came in the mornings by the lake and actually damaged our boat in the water behind our trailer. It is a beautiful park, but the driveways are very narrow and there can be a 6-8 in drop off on the edge of the pavement. Picnic tables arent always in good places. Ours was on the wrong side of the trailer. Otherwise the park is well maintained and it is near LaGrange and WestPoint for dining and supplies.

Campsite was dangerous as the drop off at the pavement next to the door was washed out. Park workers said they didn't have any money for repairs until the first of the year.

Beautiful campground with plenty of spots right on the water. One of my local favorites!

We have always enjoyed camping at Shaefer Heard, but the campsites, 108 and 109, on our last trip were not ideal. The approach was a 90◦ turn into a very narrow drive and pad. The pad dropped off on both sides, so getting in the middle was mandatory. The electric hookups are on the wrong side of the site for all sites in this loop, so you have to be sure to have enough electric cord, either built-in or additional. On site 108, the picnic table is behind and on the wrong side of the unit in addition to being a long way from the actual pad. Since the pads are so narrow and the drop-off pretty steep, you have to be very careful when exiting and entering the camper.

On the positive side, the view of the lake is excellent with the sites actually gently sloping all the way to the water. If you bring a boat, you can easily just pull it up on the bank right at your site. The bathhouse is a short walk in one direction, and restrooms are a shorter walk in the opposite direction. The loop is fairly quiet because it is short and doesn’t attract a lot of traffic. The spaces between sites is excellent. Shade is somewhat spotty in the entire loop.

I would not recommend these sites for a long trailer or fifth wheel because of the tight angle for getting into the drive and the narrowness of the pads which leave little room to maneuver. The actual road is also narrow, but it is fairly flat on the opposite side of the road; so you can get off the pavement, if necessary. The driveways are long enough for a shorter (30 feet or so) unit and a truck to park in. There are additional parking spaces along the side of the road, if needed.

These would not be my first choice of sites, but I’d be willing to take them again if nothing else were available. Once you get in, the only inconvenience is the placement of the picnic table on 108 and the narrowness of the sites with the sharp drop from the edge of the pad.

Beautiful campground! We had a great spot and enjoyed our time there very much. Friendly campsite neighbors, clean bath house, nice camping site, and really close to the boat ramp. Make sure to read every rule they give you because they are seriously strict. Or at least the hosts that were there when we were there. We have no problem at all with rules and agree they should be in place, however, at one point we felt harassed. I’ve camped all my life and never have been treated like that. I think the lady at the gate house was the worst.
