Enjoyed our stay there, we stayed during the week so there were not many other campers there. The site we stayed at was right at the water with a beautiful view of the lake. We had an elevated wooden deck above the water yet an easy quick few steps down the bank to the water. Even if there were other campers next to us there is still plenty of space between sites. We plan to return many more times in the future and even experience a family group space.

We enjoyed a very nice, enjoyable, and relaxing weekend away from home. The staff were excellent and check in/out went smoothly. The site we stayed on was clean and scenic.

We enjoyed the shade and privacy and view of the lake at site 078. The grill on site was not usable so make sure to bring your own. Other than that, it's a great location!

Nice USACOE campground on West Point lake. Sites are on the water with a deck right on the bank.

We were greeted warmly and given all the information we needed for our stay. The sites (all but a few0 are on the lake with great views. We stayed in January, so it was not crowded and was very quiet and peaceful. This is a wonderful place to stay.

It's a beautiful lake. I don't' think there is a bad campsite in the park. I thought the bathroom/shower arrangement was a little wierd. There are four bathrooms, and only two have showers, with only two showers in each. It was not very busy there over New Years weekend, but would be concerned if the campground was full. They are not very convenient to some of the camp loops. But, if you have the option to shower and use the restroom in your camper, then there is no issue.

R Shafer Heard has the best camp sites. They are clean and most of them have a wonderful view of the lake. The people at the gatehouse are always so nice and helpful. The bathrooms are clean and kept up. Definitely a place to try if you haven't ever stayed there before.

We have been to R Shafer many times and love the campground and our site was awesome!! However our interaction with the gate attendants were horrible. The attendant was making rules about the camp visitor passes that was not in the rule book and argued that we needed to read the rules of the campground which we have and did just to make sure we were not missing something . We were on one site and we had a visitor that forgot to turn in their pass and we swapped sites and when they came back they would not let them come in because the old site pass was not turned in but it was a new site different days which had nothing to do with the other site or passes for that site but he wanted to argue that the passes carried over to the new site!! He said we were responsible to return all passes that was in the rule book but we searched high and low to find that rule and could not find it! Maybe if they checked the sites to see their were not any visitors instead of trying to make it difficult for our guest that would have helped the situation. I feel that he was being rude and trying to self impose his rules and let’s not forget without campers who just want to get away for a quiet relaxing weekend they would not have a job at the parks !!!
