One of the best camping locations near the Georgia-Alabama border. The tent campsites are awesome with great views. The park entrance is closed from 10 PM to 6 AM.

This park has always been so quite and clean and one of my favorites! However, I was disappointed in the cleanliness and upkeep of my past trip. My site and many other sites I visited during my stay were not clean. There was a good bit of trash and litter left over from previous campers that was not picked up when I arrived. Additionally, it was quite loud with music well into the night. With that being said, I love this park and will be back.

Beautiful campground surrounded by beautiful trees and West Point lake. Nice level sites, fully functional water (pressure could have been better, but we made it work). Bring bug spray as per usual. Lots of bugs near water edge (on our site), but also loved to watch the fire flies at dusk/ night.
Sites are generously spaced. Bathhouses were well stocked.
Trails in the area offered much varied vegetation, birds, armadillos, and sites from the shore. Our 7 yr old grand son loved our 3 mile round trip hike. Complimentary life jackets were available for swimming in the lake.
This was the most beautiful camp ground we have been to. Site 45. Sunsets were amazing!

This was our first visit to R Schaefer Heard park and it is beautiful. I was not familiar with campgrounds having "buddy" sites and made the mistake of reserving a buddy site for just us. I thought the fee a little high and went back and realized what I had booked. I was going to change it, but my husband thought it would be a lot of work. When we arrived at the booth at R Schaefer Heard there was a lovely lady there who greeted us and asked if we were camping alone. She mentioned that we might not be familiar with the park and that we had paid a lot of money for a "buddy" site that has hookups for two RVs and extra parking. I related the story of my reservation error and she immediately reversed that charge and replaced it with the charge for a single site. There was a gentleman at the booth who was completely familiar with all the sites and recommended one to us based on us wanting shade and being on the water. The site was wonderful. Both of these people went out of their way to help us. We are very thankful and we can't wait to return for another visit.

This is a beautiful place to camp, even though it rained the whole time that we were there. Our site was very peaceful, not close to other RVers, with trees and greenery to block on looker's. The camp site had it's on beach area by the lake. The wifi and cable worked well, while having to spend most of our stay in the RV because of the rain, but ventured out in between rain showers. Our fur babies loved walking around our camp site and along the beach area of the lake. We will definitely go back to R Shaefer Heard campground, hopefully next time we will have better weather ????????

I chose my site based on bathroom location. I was disappointed to find that half of the bathrooms were closed for the season. I understand the reasoning, but it would have been nice to know at booking time.

Nice, big campsite right on the lake makes you feel secluded. Clean campgrounds and facility. View of the lake especially the sunset was great, we plan on making this our primary campground.
