The lake is all way 20ft down every time we go camping. That makes it bad for camping

Had a great time. The ones that worked the gate were excellent.

Wow! We stayed at 88 our first time and really enjoyed it but this time we stayed at 22. It's in a cove so perfect to kayak or just enjoy the lake. You could easily pull your boat up and tie it off at this site. You are about 25 feet from the water's edge. It is a very private site and very shaded. It has a slope at the top but our 26 foot camper and truck were on flat ground. An additional area to park is attached to the site. There is no grill but we always take our own so no problem. There is a bathhouse "a rock's throw" from site and on a walk we went in to check it out. It was very clean. The attendants told us to be aware cell service in this area was not great. We had no issues with calls/texts but our hotspot for tv was not good at all. We just wanted to watch the Braves so we listened on the radio. Outside our tv never got service at all. In the camper we were able to get a connection on tv but with some occasional buffering. This has no reflection on the park though. We both have Verizon. You are within a 10 minute drive from "town" if needed. Booking our next trip soon to take the boat and do some fishing.

This has become my favorite campground that is less than two hours away. Almost all of the sites are on the water and a lot of them are private. The campground hosts are always friendly and helpful. I did not give it five stars because the restrooms could use a little updating!

Very nice campground. Pleasant staff and volunteers. Close enough to towns while still being private and protected.

Such a lovely park. But sad that the water level is so low. We were unable to kayak from our site because of the water level.

I've been going to R. Shaefer Heard for at least 15 years now. Unfortunately this will be my last camping trip here because of the issues I encountered on this trip. I was on Site #22 and apparently the adjacent sites (18-21) decided to have a gathering which turned into a loud party that lasted well past midnight. Singing Rocky Top and other country music songs as loud as humanly possibly with an accompanying guitar. This woke me up around 1030pm or so, and since it was well past the established quiet time of 10pm, I decided to call the park attendants to alert them. After an hour of unsuccessful attempts to contact the on-duty attendants, COE Park Rangers, etc., I made contact with the off-duty park attendants. At this point, I decided since I only live 30 minutes away from the campground to cut my losses and pack it up and go home. The off-duty attendants were as helpful and apologetic as they could be. They said they were new to the park only being there for six days. Apparently, they couldn't figure out where the on-duty attendants were or why they weren't answering their phone. Not wanting to be a proverbial Karen (or Ken in my case), I went home. So, to sum it up...if you like singing loud, drinking beer, hollering about how great life is, partying all night long without any regards to the peaceful sleep and tranquility of other campers, then R. Shaefer Heard is the campground for you!

It is a nice park, although our visit was during winter. The sites were nice, covered with trees, short access to the lake shore, and separated from each other which provided some sound privacy. The park facilities were not fully open; there were spaces for online reservations. When arriving at the entrance gate, we were required to sign a check-in register, and then when we departed we were to sign a check-out register. Since the park office was not open, there was no site map to use for going to our site. We did get directions by another camper.

This was our first RV trip so we kept it close to home, It was a wonderful facility. Privacy was abundant and it was a beautiful campground. My only regret is that I fished and fished and fished in the shallow water and never got a bite LOL I’ll go back and try again and some deeper waters. Highly recommended this campgrounds.

Lot 22 was a great lot in the cove with a nice view. There is good distance between lot 22 and neighboring lots, it is shielded by wooded areas on both sides. Lot is nice and level with a great pad. It is a keeper.
