Perfect location. Site 101 was lakefront, level, easy access and a long parking pad. Good cell and WiFi signal. This site was more expensive so likely intended to be a group site as it had two electrical boxes. Definitely will be back.

This is a beautiful park. The sites are in located in great positions to view the lake. Peace and quiet are available to all who visit this park. The park host was very knowledgeable and friendly making you feel like your coming home.

Wonderful Park. I did experience an issue one evening, It was after 10:00 pm and it took about 20 minutes to get someone to answer the phone and unlock the gate. Perhaps a little bit of automation should be installed to prevent this from happening.

Our stay was very nice with three exceptions. First, a previous camper had burned old lumber, that had hardware attached, in the fire pit. Whoever cleaned out the fire pit left screws, nails and lag bolts laying around with some strewn out into the grass. Second, one of the attendants tried to restrict me from using my choice of a mobility devise because it did not fit her stereotypical power chair appearance. The attendants should be trained on this topic. Third, the rule of not putting pet pens on the hard-packed/paved areas needs to be rescinded. Campers who put up pins because they care for their pets. They won't allow feces to accumulate because of health reasons. One attendant stated they needed to be in the grassy areas because some people put up tents and they on the hard-packed/paved areas. If this is a true reason, how will the COE manages the feces left behind by the wildlife, especially the Geese?

We enjoy camping at R. Shaefer Heard. The camp sites are nice and the facility is well maintained. Most of the camp host are very nice and personable, but some are on a power trip that lack tact and diplomacy when dealing with the campers. I understand that they have to deal with a small percentage of troublemakers, but they do not need to start off with the "in your face" mentality. The one rule that makes absolutely no sense is not being able to put a pet fence on the paved/compacted area. Their mindset is tent campers may want to pitch their tent on the paved/compacted area. They believe campers will not clean up after their pet if the pet fence is on the paved/compacted area. But, you find evidence all over the paved/compacted area where the Geese have been walking through. I've seen site employees/volunteers visiting each site when it is vacated. If they find that the campers left the site in an unacceptable condition, charge a campers a site cleaning fee.

Have always enjoyed our brief stays at R Shaefer Heard Campground, sites and dump station have always been clean, enough privacy by our sites and fairly close to home for us, which makes it convenient

This is one of the best national parks in the south east. The roads are clear and level. The sites are spacious, level and almost all of them are on the water. The hosts are very friendly. They only concern is when there is a vacant site pet owners use that site to walk their pets. I had to clean up my area so my family could be comfortable.
