This is one of our favorite Corp of Engineers parks to stay at in the Southwest Georgia area. It is right on the lake and there are plenty of things to do nearby. Just relaxing at our site and enjoying the peace and quiet this park offers is more than enough ! Some of the sites are deck sithes that are on a bluff on the edge of the lake and the views are just amazing. Put this park on your bucket list for sure!

Always have a great time camping at West Point Lake. Staff is always helpful and outgoing if any issues occur. Only reason for 4 stars not 5 is due to the water level being dropped at a steady rate. Not a camp ground issue! Had issues with boat and had to ask neighbors if could dock boat in front of their site.

Fantastic place, friendly people. We had spot 108 right on the lake, spent two nights to wait out weather. Level packed gravel spots. 50 amp service with water. Very much enjoyed our stay. The town is about 15 minutes away going across the dam. Nice drive. Beautiful place will stay again.

My wife and I were traveling through the area and we looking for a place to just overnight in our motorhome. We liked the campgrounds so much that we booked a second night there before heading out to our destination. We will be back.

The campground was very clean and access to the lake was easy. While there, take the time to drive over to the dam and you can swim just past it on the right.

The RV camping experience was great, had all the amenities I was expecting less the sewer hookup but the dump station was near enough and prevented no problems, especially since I brought my portable (with wheels) dump tank. Separation between camp sites was excellent and everyone respected each other and the quite time. Would I camp their again? I plan on it! would I recommend the park for camping to others? Absolutely not as I don't want the secret out (ha ha). Of course I would.

R. Shafer Heard is one of our favorite places to camp. The entire campground is clean and well maintained. All the employees are kind and helpful. We so enjoy being able to camp right on the lake. Getting our kayak in and out of the lake is so easy. Again, it is one our go to places to camp in Ga.

Loved the waterfront site on loop 1-10. So spacious, clean, level. And nice laundry as well.

We love R Shafer Hear! My husband and I frequent this park all throughout the year. Site #10 was the worst site we have stayed on. It had a lot of tree debris right in our front view. Would not recommend this site. Wish we could have more sites open for the winter season, it would be full every weekend.

Love this place and people are nice , just cant understand why they dont have a key pad to come in and out! You have to be back in the park before 10pm or you will be locked out!!! No exception!!! You will have to sleep outside in you car with you little kids outside of the gate all night!!! This is so stupid !

We enjoy camping at R Schaefer Heard, very convenient to local amenities and so glad you improved the sites. One thing I do not like is your host blows off the sites with blowers and that pushes all the gravel off the site, thus needing to put more gravel down.
