We stayed for a one night stop while passing through. The pine pollen was bad while we were here.

We did a one night stay on our way home from FL. Some friends were traveling with us we has sites 15 and 16 which shared a drive way a tight squeeze getting into sites but after getting in opens up to a very nice site. Very nice campground will go back.

Love this park! The sites are so nice and big. We had one of the buddy sites and it was perfect. We were just close enough to my parents. Lol Bathhouse was always clean. Just a beautiful park.

Sites are relatively flat, nicely wooded. Lake is pretty too

We were on site 15. I was level and very clean. Our only concern was the low cell service (with Verizon) which is a problem with trying to contact family. Otherwise our camping experience was phenomenal. We traveled to West Point, Lanett AL and Valley Al. Dined in LaGrange which is a little bit further than the afore mentioned cities. We will return to R. Shaefer Heard because of the positive experience.

Beautiful park that is meticulously maintained! Just wished there was a place to buy ice and firewood. George and his wife were so helpful when I made reservations and upon check-in! we cannot wait to return!

This campground is so pretty! We were site 15, which is a buddy site. Wow, we had so much room! We always had a beautiful breeze, even when it was pushing 95. My kids went in the lake multiple times without any worries. The hills are not our favorite because were not used to them. Lol Its really quiet and dark at night. You must be back in the park by 10:00 pm. They do not have a code for campers to use to get in after hours. That didnt bother us at all, but for some it may. We rode our bikes to the dam, which was pretty cool to see and visit. Just over the dam was the GA/AL line. There are multiple toilet houses. There are only two shower houses for the entire park. They all could use some updating. The only garbage dumpsters were at the RV dump site.

We camped at R. Shaffer Heard April 9-14, 2022, in campsite #15. This is an excellent site with partial shade and good access to the water. It is also right before the road becomes one way, so entry and exit are easy. It shares a drive with site #16, so it is perfect for two families traveling together. But it is isolated enough that you don't feel like you are sharing a site. The only complaint is that, after all the rain we've had, the site was a little more unlevel than the sites at the campground usually are. But it still was better than many that we've encountered in other places. I'd definitely recommend this campground IF you can manage to get reservations. It stays mostly booked up almost all the time.

Very clean park and bathrooms. The personnel at the gate were not as friendly and accommodating as I have experienced at other campgrounds.

Very nice campground. Nice spacing between campsites. We also had a small problem with our RV and the staff, including two rangers were extremely helpful.

Lake is low in winter (end of December), but not crowded. The kids loved roaming around the lake and we will definitely come back. Low lake is muddy, though, so bring some boots. Froze overnight and spigot split. Park volunteer/host called in repair and it was sorted out shockingly quick. Easy access from I-85 (two exits), close enough to supplies local and big box store, and beautiful lake views. Ribbitz is a store just down the road with supplies, bait, and will sell you firewood for $.0.50 a stick if you need it. We rode in to Warm Springs for a day and had some great food, visited The Little White House, and made it back with plenty of time to prep for a campfire in daylight (even in winter).

We love this park. The sites are large with easy access to the water. The winter hosts are very nice. We camp here often. We enjoy riding our bikes and kayaking in the warmer months.
