First, let me say that the campsite itself was more than adequate. Very pleased with it and the shade that it provided. Double wide site that gives plenty of room for the camper and to park the vehicle. There is enough space to comfortably Park a second vehicle there.My complaint is not with the site but with the park policy of requiring a three night stay your reservation is tied to Friday or Saturday night. We were traveling from out of state and having to pay for three nights when we only needed one or two, like Thursday and Friday night did not seem appropriate. I would think the corps of engineer should look at their policy for people who are traveling or live more than 150 miles or so from the campsite. However, we did enjoy our stay there even though we had to pay for a Saturday night that we were unable to use. My Verizon cell service was almost non-existent at this site. AT&T service was fine. The host's were having a limited positive experience. They were notably burned out and about to leave on the coming weekend. It bled over into the interaction.

Camp Site 55. No cell service, had to walk up to top of hill to receive any service. Water at site was cloudy and brown looking (rust). Showers was a car ride away from camp site. Had restrooms near by but no showers. Tried antenna for TV, nothing. Will think hard if I will return.

We have camped at R Shaefer Heard twice recently. The park is beautiful and very well kept. The only negative was treatment by the camp host wife. It was so out of line and unacceptable that it would make you second guess going back and having to deal with her. Absolutely not professional enough to deal with the public.

Camping sites are well maintained. Plenty of privacy between sites. Quiet.

Our first stay here and we could not have been more impressed. Site 55 was the most private site we have ever been in, surrounded by trees. I even spent an afternoon watching a pileated woodpecker find food around our campsite. Site was very quiet. I just loved the place, even hiking and biking right on site.
