We have camped at R. Shaefer Heard on about 5 occasions for two week stays. We love this park. The sites are large and many of them wooded and private and with lake views. The bass fishing is always good and the woods and lake have abundant birds. This year, there was work being done on the dam spillway, so the water level was 10 feet below 'pool' and resulted in a wider than normal shoreline. This doesn't really detract from enjoying the lake but the lake is not so attractive surrounded by a large muddy ring. The facilities at the park are quite dated and this is especially apparent in the washrooms and campsite landscaping. Taking a shower or doing a laundry is not very attractive although there is lots of hot water. As usual, the park hosts are both friendly and helpful. I look forward to staying at R. Shaefer Heard again!
