This is one of my favorite campgrounds. Sites are spacious and most are shady with water access. This site did not disappoint. Not too many campers this trip (December). Check-in and out was easy with helpful hosts.

We have camped at Shaefer Heard a number of times. We have several lots that we choose as often as they are available. Lots are always clean and maintained well. The front gate attendants have always been friendly, courteous, and helpful. Bike riding, boating and walking are great with maintained roads and a nice boat ramp. Nearby WestPoint has great restaurants with a nice variety to choose your meal from - ordering online is great and we are back to the campground in a matter of minutes . LaGrange GA is within 30 minutes and has a lot to offer in dining, shopping, historical sites and is a walkable area that is very nice.

We enjoyed our stay. We were disappointed that the lake was drained to a lower level rather than at full pool. This is a peaceful and quiet campground

Camp host and staff were friendly. The facilities and property are beautiful, cold weekend but had a lovely time. We will be back!!

What a gem! Spacious campsite with privacy between sites. Site 61 had easy 20 yard walk to the lake for kayak put-in. Sunny but shaded enough with the tall pine trees that the sun did not beat down on you at the site and heat the inside of your camper. There may be better sites with better views of the lake but this is 9 out of 10 and the others we saw were 11s. Groceries are just 10 miles or so away in Lanett. The office will tell you about Jake for firewood, 2 house north on US 29 as you leave. Really nice size bundles for $7. If you had family and could get 2-3 of these sites next to each other (56-61) it is easy to envision a great family or friends weekend. Very easy access off of I-85 yet far enough that you do not get any road noise. Noticed the huge KIA plant as we left and if we had known earlier we would have checked into whether they do plant tours.

Love this gem of a campground. Almost all sites are on the lake. Well maintained and clean. 4 stars due to age of restrooms. But they were always clean and operating. More wildlife in the water than in the park. Would certainly go again.

Check in process saved us 50% because I didnt realize lifetime National Parks pass applied at COE sites. They asked the right questions and saved us $17. Site was nice, level, good electric/water hookups. Great view of lake, though water level was very low. Bath house was convenient, but needs maintenance (peeling paint, rusty fixtures), but this is the government, not private ownership, so federal funding backlog hasnt caught up yet. Quick overnight stay, but definitely would stay here again.

We love camping at R Shaefer Heard Campground. It is so peaceful and the sites are large and well kept. The trees that separate the sites make it a very special place as well. We have camped in campgrounds that it seems like the campers are right up against each other with no trees. Needless to say every campground we go to is measured by R Shaefer Heard and most DO NOT measure up.

This is a great park and campground. We visited in early February and there were very few campers. All the sites were great, we stayed in site 70, had a deck, bench seating, picnic table, grill and fire ring. Also a great view of the lake. What was also nice was the complete separation of campground from day use area. Hoped to paddleboard but the wind picked up and lake was too rough for me. Bath house was dated but very clean. Washer and dryer also clean with a nice bench to sit on while I did laundry. Cell phone service for Verizon was a bit spotty. Lovely campground, friendly hosts, friendly campers! Will most definitely revisit.

Went for 4th of July .. loved this spot. Very shady right across from shower and laundry. Semi private but far enough your not bothered great spot for kids very easy water access

Park very clean, space we were on right on water, near clean bath house and bathroom. Nearby West Point had grocery store, restaurant, urgent care, etc. Beautiful area
