Unkept, not marked! The hike in and out isnt favorable. Very difficult to bring all your stuff to the site if you plan to stay for more than a day. The water was beautiful if you could safely get to it.

We stayed here the last weekend in October, walk-in sites 19 and 20, and had such a great experience that we have already booked these same spots for next year! As others may have mentioned, these spots do have a bit of a hike in, but totally worth it for the views, access to the lake and privacy. We brought a canoe and kayaks, launched right off our campsite! The campgrounds were also a great walk/hike for non-water activity. Weve stayed at the other spots on Carters Lake and this is by far our favorite!

We had a frustrating experience at this campground. We arrived late in the evening to set up our campsite. We were tent camping. The actual site upon arrival did not look anything like the site pictured online. It was a long, steep walk on a hiking path deep in the woods very far away from our car. Very inconvenient and difficult to haul gear up and down for senior citizens. It might have been okay if your were backpacking and you didn’t mind being far away from the bathrooms. I think it was site 21. So, we declined to stay there. The camp host was exceptionally kind and helpful in trying to find us alternative sites, but it was a popular time of year and the campground was full. So, we left and checked into a hotel. My suggestion is to preview the campground before arriving to make sure you are okay with the site as several of the sites were scary in my opinion. The online photos and descriptions should be updated to accurately portray what the entire sites look like and the conditions and how far away from your vehicles you would be and how steep the paths are for those whose knees wouldn’t be able to easily handle those situations. I can’t comment on the rest of the campground as we arrived in the dark and couldn’t even see the lake. The bathroom looked clean and adequate but dated. But, again, the camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. Can’t fault them at all.

Site 20 was a hike, but it was lovely and right on the edge of the lake. Perfect spot if you want some privacy.
