Excellent place to camp. The people that run the campground are great. Very nice & keep the place very clean. They know the area & have suggestions for help if you need it. The ants are a really big problem on some of the sites. I would suggest a good spray for your camper or tent. The sunsets are the best. Views of the lake can be seen from almost every site. Sites are pretty big & some are very private. Try Maggie Jaynes SnowCone place if you bring kids. Its great. And they welcome dogs. Baby Jos is a great place to eat or take out. But go early because they run out of the best food. The only downside of Winfield is that they are not open year round.

We LOVE, LOVE Winfield campground. We have been visiting there for four years. It used to be our "closest to our home" campground and now we live almost 400 miles away and STILL love it! The only warning is "ants". The ants are over the top horrible. We are even aware of how bad they are, but this trip, we found a new way to be infested by ants. We treated all of our "touch points" on arrival. But didn't think about treating our firewood bag that gets put under the camper on site, then in the bed of the truck to travel. So, loaded up and moved down the road to a GA state park. As we were getting unpacked for the night, we discovered that our truck was completely infested with ants - like billions of ants running around every single door gasket, the entire back bed, coming into the cab, in the engine... Little brown ants - rivers of ants. We had to spray all the door frames, the back seat, the entire bed, the edges around the engine, the window frames... it was horrible. Then we spent the rest of our 5 hour drive the next day killing the stragglers in the cab. Word to the wise - never, ever lean anything against your camper (like fishing poles) because the ants run up them. (Our camper was infested with billions of ants in 2019). Never put anything into your camper that came in contact with the ground at Winfield that wasn't sprayed with pesticide. Spray your truck tires and don't lean anything against your truck (like fishing poles). Use diatomaceous earth or other non-toxic/low toxic to treat any contact points at the campsite (your jacks, your tongue, your stairs, your hoses, your electrical cord). Anything that touches the ground is a conduit for ants to come inside and they are horrible to kill. These bite, tho not as badly as fire ants. If crawling critters wierds you out - treat well or camp elsewhere. We will be back but ugh. Winfield needs to treat for ants. And weedwhack around the power poles, etc.

#59. Nice waterfront lot with unobstructed views of lake. Small drop off to the water. Only one neighboring lot. Very private.

Great campground with wonderful staff. All unoccupied sites were very clean, and host did morning and evening rounds. My only issue was the ants. They began infesting my camper the minute I parked. Luckily I noticed they would be an issue right away but it was a weekend long struggle to keep them out of my camper and truck with multiple rounds of ant spray. Bringing ant spray is a must for this campground. Aside from the ants, I had a great time.

Bathhouses could have been cleaner and we had a lot of traffic on our circle (#59) to be a fairly empty campground. Overall the campground was nice and we will return/recommend.

The only complaint I have is how the park attendants act. We did not have the car limit at our site but our children were still harrassed about coming to visit us. One of our children already had a pass from the previous night and when they came back the next morning they were still treated badly. We use to camp at winfield several times a year, then we couldn't go camping for a while. Then when we were able, we booked winfield and had this experience. I do not believe we will be returning. The park attendants need an attitude adjustment.
