Beautiful and peaceful time anywhere you go at trout pond

We had a great time camping and using the trails for hiking. The bathroom/shower that was closest to our campsite was out of order however there were 2 facilities that were available and kept clean during our stay. The camp host was friendly and helpful and checked on us as soon as we arrived. He offered to assist with any needs and offered additional information that was thoughtful. We were there over the weekend and the beach area was very crowded. The people were using fishing spaces and the boat dock for swimming. There were several young men jumping off of the rocks where it was posted not to pass or jump. Unfortunately, there was no ranger there the entire time of our stay to enforce safety or enforce guidelines. The beach area had more of a feel of a beach that you would find on the coast with loud music, lots of food/beverages and definitely not the peaceful setting you would think would be in a national forest. Overall we enjoyed our stay as long as we did not go to the beach space.

Incredible- the bath house and outdoor shower were closed and in tent camping the closest bathroom to our site was closed- tough to have to wait in the morning when you have to go you have to go and you don't want to be waiting in line for a stall. Never had experienced this before at Trout Pond- usually it is a great place to camp and then enjoy the sandy beach of the lake.

Nice park, site descriptions can be misleading as there are a lot of sloped sites which can be a problem for trailers and tents. Some sites have drop offs that could be a problem for young kids. Bathroom was kept clean daily. Overall we like this campground for quick weekend excursions since its close.

This campground is a hidden gem. Sites are well kept, bathrooms and clean, and the lake is wonderful. Highly recommend!

Trout Pond had become one of our go-to campgrounds for a true getaway that still had nice amenities, such as electric hookup, showers, swimming beach. and trails. The older water system is giving way, which meant all of the lower bathrooms around the lake and picnic areas were closed for our whole 9-day visit. Fortunately, porta-johns were brought in and placed nearby for easy access. Another problem with the campground is the electrical system. We stayed in site 11. Our site and the three following ours going up the hill all had electricity woes in the midst of an upper-90s heatwave that lasted for days. Two electric cars were plugged in at site 10, so the little grid may not have been able to handle those along with providing a consistent supply to other campers. This woe ended up frying our power converter, on the hottest day nevertheless.Other than these problems, Trout Pond is phenomenal being far removed from all commotion, cell signal, hustle, etc. It was nice to see the pond full again after all the rain the area has gotten. I hope the problems get fixed lest others end their trips with unfortunate memories like ours.

The campground and lake area were nice, clean and well maintained. We were in site 2 which actually had a 30 amp (and 15 amp) even though it was only listed as 15 amp. .

this is our favorite camp ground the camp host are new this year, very friendly . I question the way the reservation signs are written the exit date was a little confusing but new people they are learning. Hope to be able to return again this summer.

Website says 15 amp electric, but we had 30 amp available..so please update website. Winding, narrow local roads into the campground. Sites are mostly sloped, some have a level back area, but if you have a larger rig... you'll have to raise the front a lot to be "Level". No water at individual sites, so fill before you come, unless you want to block the road for 1/2 hour while you fill your tank. Will avoid this campground if possible in the future.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. The sites were spacious and well spaced. On the West Virginia side of Shenandoah, it is about an hour drive away from the North entrance to the park near Front Royal and 90 minutes from the Thornton Gap entrance near the center of the park. Those drives are not insignificant but this gets you away from the crowds and traffic in the park and provides a comfortable peaceful place to stay. There are a couple of pleasant short hikes (<5 miles) here as well. Bathrooms are clean with warm (not hot) showers. In October the bathrooms were definitely not toasty! No cell phone service from Sprint, TMobile or Verizon.

The road to this campground is mostly a single lane road so go slow and hope to vehicle you meet slows down to! Campground is tucked into a beautiful niche in the forest. Very limited number of electric/ water campsites. Most have no services. The campsites are comfortable sizes. We stayed in campsite 11. It was close to one of the bathhouses. The site itself was very level BUT there is a 3 drop off from the road to the parking pad. So be prepared! There is no internet service.The bathhouse was cleaned daily and was well maintained. The shower is unusual as you cannot adjust the water temperature or flow. You just push the button (every 30 seconds) and there is water. The temperature was just right - not too hot, not too cool. The only downside to this campground was the host barking dog. And it did bark - all day long. We could not even sit outside for that barking dog. Even when we hiked up the trail to the ledge, we heard that dog for the first half mile.

Rented shelter A for a family gathering. They bathrooms were not open and had to walk to swim area for the restroom. Was not informed of this at the time of the event. When renting theses shelters out a John blue should have been provided. To what I was told the water line busted a month ago and still was not fixed. What ashamed to have people walking that far to the restroom.

We were at Trout Pond from May 13 to May 22, 2024. There had been no weed eating or mowing. Weeds and grass were knee high which made walking and walking the dog terrible. The ticks were horrible with the weeds and grass being so high. About 4pm Wednesday, May 15, there was no water, no host to be found to report the issue and no way to get hold of ranger to report the water issue. Host returned to campground about 3 hours later, finally had water next day about 11am. Host did not go around informing campers of water being back on. We have been coming to this campground since 1979 and this is the worst condition it has been in. Of all our years of camping, this has been our favorite campground, hopefully this is just a one time issue.

It was beautiful. We had #12. It was a little small but no problem for our 20 trailer just had to park the truck off to the side. We had 30 amp service depending on where you look online its a little confusing as it shows as a 15 amp but it truly was 30 amp.

The bathroom at camp has has had cold water the last 2 tim s we have been there. First time in 30 years this has happened. They say its because of the amount of people using but not n past years there has been more people using and still had hot water.

The campsite was great! The bathrooms were clean and the beach area is always wonderful. I would like to see some playground equipment put back in to replace what was removed.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
