Whetstone Horse Camp is located in the Andrew Pickens Ranger District, Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests (1 hr 19 min northwest of Anderson, SC) with an elevation of 1,674 feet. There are a total of 18 campsites which are all tent-only sites. The campground is open all year. Max equipment length is 105 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. Fees range from $15.00 to $30.00. Activities include horseback riding, hiking trails.

The grass had not been cut in the campground. One of the toilets was locked due to being full. One or two trees had trails blocked with no warning. We rode in quite a ways and had to turn around.

Camp was freshly mowed and beautiful. I went during the week so it was very quiet and relaxing.

Very nice and quiet camp ground very friendly campers. Our family loved it we will be doing it again. Would love to see a little play ground for the little campers. Overall a wonderful experience

We love riding out of Whetstone horse camp. There has been alot of work done on the trails after all the damage from Helene. Deeply appreciated. However the horse camp itself is not being taken care of. The bathrooms were locked. The mounting block at the back of campground is falling apart and dangerous. Most all the hitching post to tie ur horses were muddy and wet. Need fill dirt and gravel. Campers are high tying on trees because theyre unable to utilize these for their horses. There was no host to address any concerns .

Whetstone is a gorgeous, spacious horse camp nestled in the foothills of SC. The trails are amazing.

For the third time in the last three years we arrived at the campground to find our reserved campsite already occupied. The first two times after much delay and confusion we were able to move into campsite. This last time we found that the camp host gave our reserved site to a couple who simply wanted to be next to their friends who were camped in the adjacent site. We drive approximately three hours to the campground to find we dont have a campsite due to someones negligence or it has been given away to someone else.

Trails were great for a hike. Disconnecting from the outside world was refreshing. My daughter loved seeing all the horses, over all a great time!

This was the best place to camp. The water was clean and clear, it wasnt very crowded. This place was just wonderful, recommended all my friends and familys here. I have straight talk and didnt have service until i was at the four way stop sign. I would come back to this place again!

Love riding here. The trails were a tad muddy but the river is so pretty. Only compliant would be non horse campers taking up a large section of campground

Horse high tie areas need lots of work. Trails need to have rotin trees cut before they fall on some one

Their are about 8 low tie post for the horses.Thesevare very dangerous to tie the horses to.The other sites have the high tie lines for the horses they are great.Please have the low tie replaced with the high ones .Other than that we enjoyed our time there and the host was very helpful

Camp ground clean. However the trash cans were full and they did not pick up! Was there M-Sunday.
Also would like to see the hitching/ties at sites like 14 removed. They are dangerous to horses. They are so low and the metal tie ring can hurt a horse, potentially killing a horse. Very dangerous! They put up signs that you had to tie to rack… not high tie to trees! For sure those who make that decision as well as design of tie rack are not horse people!!!!! Would like to see these low tie racks removed. Poor poor not horse friendly design!!!!
