What a beautiful campground. Fun to watch the occasional boat go through the lock, plus good birdwatching and even some otters to see. Well kept and very clean; nice host and staff. Recommend highly. Plus some good places in LaBelle if you want to get out for a bite.

Ortona South Campground is hands down one of our favorite campgrounds of all time! The sites are huge, level, and well-maintained, with a mix of paved and gravel surfaces, grassy areas, and vegetation between sites for privacyyoure not packed in on top of your neighbors. The campground has electric and water hookups, plus a dump station, making it super convenient. Bathhouses are clean with hot water, mirrors and hand dryers. The campground hosts are friendly and attentive, always keeping an eye on things. Theres plenty of space to walk dogs, and weve never had an issue with unleashed pets. Amenities include grills, campfire rings, water access, fishing spots, and plenty of shade. We also had great cell coverage with both AT&T and Verizon. The views of open pastures with grazing cows, along with cranes fishing in the creek, add to the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. If you're looking for a quiet, spacious, and scenic campground, this is it. Highly recommend!

Site 51 was fantastic. Close to restrooms. Paved site. Close to locks, which we enjoyed watching the boats go through.

We loved this park. Quiet, except for the charming cooing of doves each day.

Love this campground! We have stayed here several times in several different sites. It is extremely quiet and peaceful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are clean with nice hot water for showers. There are two circles of campsites, and the bathrooms serve 20-30 sites per bathroom. Each bathroom has two showers per male/female, and two toilets per male/female. We like sites 21-30 along the river the most. It is a little windier, but there's a better view of the water. Today I watched the manatees feed along the shore. Pretty fun! I've also seen alligators in the water. All the other sites are great too! We plan to stay here again.

Our stay at Ortona South Campground was absolutely fantastic in every way. The spacious sites provided ample room for our camper, and the level concrete pad made setup a breeze. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, we enjoyed the peaceful ambiance and felt completely immersed in nature. The campground's cleanliness, especially the bathroom and shower facilities, was impressive, contributing to a comfortable stay. Additionally, the easy-to-use dump station and well-maintained electric and water hookups added convenience to our camping experience. We appreciated the thoughtful layout of the campground, which allowed plenty of space and shade for our large dogs to relax in. The grounds were meticulously maintained, creating a pleasant environment for leisurely walks and relaxation. The campground hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. Safety was never a concern, and we felt secure at all times.Exploring the locks and observing the diverse fish and wildlife added an extra dimension of enjoyment to our trip. And when the sun set, gathering around the campfire was the perfect way to end the day. Moreover, the campground's proximity to a store came in handy for any forgotten essentials, ensuring a stress-free experience. Overall, Ortona South Campground exceeded our expectations, and we already booked our next stay!!

It was over Thanksgiving and everyone was invited to bring a dish and have Thanksgiving together. They also passed out bags with a pencil and a carabiner that has a multipurpose tool, it is very handy and I added it to my essential kit.

Our host is superb he was very friendly and explained a lot about different things there in the park - such as the local gator - talking about the panther reserve - explaining about it being ok for people to come in to fish - very quiet park - we love it - we will be back- its our 3rd time and planning more visits!

We only stayed at Ortona South for a couple of days this time. Aside from being a beautiful and well-kept campground, there is the lock, which adds interest in the form of boat traffic and the actual process of raising and lowering the water level in the lock to allow boats to continue across the state. Also, as a birder, I would like to add that in one 90-minute period during a May (that's out of season here, by the way) morning, I observed 22 different species of birds in and from the campground.
