Clean grounds, nice crew. Smaller sites but very well kept up. There could be updates to the showers.

We always enjoy being at ORTONA South. We use to walk or ride our bikes on the road leading into the campground but when gravel pit opened it made it too dangerous. Now we just walk the loops and get to meet other campers which is very nice. All the hosts are very nice.

It was a place to park, I did not consider it much fun, but parking my camper van on concrete was good, all thou you have to deal with walking on rocks, which I thought was not very camp feeling vibe. there was grass lining my campsite, I set my rug and chair on the grass, but then I felt like I was not part of my camp.

Beautifully maintained park. The sites have electricity and water but no sewer there is a dump on the way out. It's very quiet other than the diesel tow vehicles which is minimal night time it's noise comes from the birds. There is a covered park bench fire pit and Grill at I believe all sites.

We absolutely loved our stay at this Army Corps of Engineers campground! It was everything we hoped for quiet, peaceful, and incredibly clean. The views were stunning; we looked out over beautiful pastures and the river, and it was pure serenity. It was the kind of place where you can just breathe a little deeper and truly relax. We felt safe, the grounds were well maintained, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations.Well most definitely be back again already looking forward to it!

Excellent support from the volunteers. For future improvement, we suggest to add coin washer and dryer.

Always a pleasure to stay here- clean, quiet, relaxing atmosphere- my husband some to fish while I come to relax never fails to meet our expectations. Also, we meet the nicest people from all over the country. Highly recommend!

This is one of the most pleasant campgrounds we have been to on this trip, and for quite some time.It was very quiet with only a few interruptions by passing motorboats in the canal moving by slowly. We saw eagles and ospreys with 4 different types of doves calling he campground home. The folks that greeted us and work at the campgrounds we wonderful and helpful. The sites and the grounds were clean, level and well groomed.

Ive been to ortona locks 3 times. It is a nice setting and very quiet at night. It seems there is something needing to be worked on Lacks in simple maintenance. Obvious mid management by the Army Corps of Engineers. This year,(1/14/23) a company was hauling gravel and sand next door and the road is beat up and covered with dirt, excessive in my opinion. Fisherman seemed to be doing well and a smaller alligator took up residence on the feeder stream. Showers were hot and adequate pressure. Bike riding and walking are not uncommon. Boat watching in the locks and watching for manatees.

Very relaxing time. Weather good. Sites spacious. Watched multiple boats maneuver the locks in the river. Restrooms and showers clean. Very rural and beautiful skies and star viewing. Fishing good and animal sightings frequent.

Our favorite place. Stop there on our way north and again on our way south. Mike and Joyce are great hosts. We'll see them in April 2023 on our way back to NY.

This was a great campground in terms of the hosts, camp sites, and facilities, but if you plan on fishing you will be disappointed. The small metal pier where you can catch snook is crowded with locals. Yes, the campground has another pier (wooden) for fishing further away from the dam, but the fish are different and not as plentiful. Also, the area surrounding the campground does not offer many, if any, recreational activities. However, you want a place to do nothing but relax, this is it!

Cannot say enough good. The volunteers made us feel welcomed and volunteered to show us to our site. The campground is spotlessly clean and well kept. Little details like the maintenance of the dump station really helped. The location on the river is ideal. The cellular coverage was outstanding for voice, text and LTE...no need for WiFi. The only warning I have is it is a long ride to the nearest town so plan accordingly, but the remoteness is what makes it special. We will absolutely go back without any second thoughts.
