Very well constructed and maintained. Good electric power. 2-3 bars Verizon cell service. Adequate, well-landscaped spaces between sites. Excellent gravel-edged-with-concrete-strips sites. Parking pads are level and concrete. Burning of nearby sugar cane fields might bother those with sensitive sinuses. Quiet. Relaxing. Lots of birds: mockingbirds, warblers, herons, crows, doves, otters, gator. Staff was evident on site often. Bathhouses were modern and well-maintained. Corps of Engineers campgrounds are our favorites and this one is one of the better ones.

In a beautiful setting. Clean and well maintained. Space between sites. Staff was helpful. Easy access to lock to watch boats. Only drawback was road to campground was dusty and bumpy. Lots of dump trucks. Once inside gate, no problem.

Always nice to go to a Recreation Gov location and use our Lands - this spot is a nice small camp and has a wonderful feel.
Windy and Sunny with waterway views. This time we wend for a late lunch just down the hi-way to the River Grill restaurant.
Boy O Boy was the food good.
Got to see some wildlife too.
NOTE back up the road to town is a Walmart, and Tractor Supply if you need stuff during the stay.

A beautiful, peaceful campground. Back a very long drive. Spots are large and well spaced. It was wonderful to be able to park on concrete, made leveling very easy! Showers are very nice, clean. Would definitely stay again!

Wonderful well run facility. We stay there every three months or so, usually an overnight on the way to or from somewhere. Great access for strolling on the levees and dikes.

Clean beautiful well-maintained corp of engineer park on the Caloosahatchee River. You can watch the boats pass through the locks traversing the intercoastal waterway.

What a wonderful campground! Very well maintained, and beautiful views. Lots of birds to see on and off the river. Not much in the area to do, so it’s easy to just relax and watch the boats float in and out of the locks. Great entry road too - makes for a pretty walk or run.

Ortona South COE Campground is a great place to spend a few days! The campsites are white gravel, kept clean and not too close together. The restrooms and shower houses were very clean and well supplied. The Volunteer Staff were helpful, courteous and The best part for me, as a birder and photographer, were the abundance of birds and wildlife. I had over 50 species on my list before leaving. An added advantage was access to a 4 mile loop around an adjacent wetlands area for hikers and bikers. It travels along dikes between wetlands, canals, orange groves and pastures, so there is plenty to see. Can't wait to come back!

We really liked Ortona South. The campground
is immaculate. We were in site 19, while not waterfront we liked the natural area in the back. Hosts were excellent. The restrooms were always clean and well kept. Great stay
