I'd give it 5 stars if they would fix the fishing pier. This is our fifth year coming here and the the second year the bridge has been closed. So disappointing! One of the draws for Ortona South was the pier. To fish or just watch the wildlife on the water. Other than that disappointment, the park is beautiful.

Ortona South is a beautiful campground with clean, level sites and very clean restrooms. Potable (but not great tasting) water is available at all sites. Hosts and rangers are friendly, as are the engineers who work at the locks. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. one can watch boats pass through the locks or walk across the dam and lock bridges when no boats are crossing. There are quiet country roads for bike rides on the far side of the dam. Also, several trailheads are available within a 1 hour drive to ride bicycles or walk part of the 100 miles around Lake Okeechobee. At first glance, these paved trails appear closed by a gate, but that is only to stop motor vehicles. There is a pathway for bicycles and walkers to enter.

Loved the quietness. Appreciated the cleanliness of the park and bathrooms. Watching the boats go thru the locks was awesome. An incredible structure I could truly appreciate without driving miles from our campsite.

One of my favorite campgrounds. Clean, cement pads, well maintained, terrific location adjacent to locks & dam, quiet and friendly staff.

We love this campground. We have stayed here the past three Feb. while visiting FL. This year -2022- the neighbors decided to do a vegetation burn and this lasted all day with heavy smoke. It was awful.

Great hosts. Clean sites, bathrooms. Only negative was too many bright street lights. Difficult to sleep at night. But over all, great time. Locks were great to watch in operation. Just a lovely 4 nights.

Watching the boats go through the Lock was very interesting. Not the most adventurous place, but great to relax. I would bike to Ortona Tavern for pizza. Nice little place less than two miles away.

The facilities are kept exceptionally clean. The hosts are friendly and very helpful. The fishing is usually great but it was not this time but hopefully will be next time.

Very helpful reception upon arrival. Site was clean but void of any shade. We moved to another site with a beautiful water view, but again, there was no shade. Planting some palm trees at sites would make a huge difference in comfort, especially in hot weather. We enjoyed our stay very much.
