Good location in A loop with plenty of space between sites.

Beautiful park setting campground with water and electric at $20/night with the senior pass. Endless biking possibilities and a magnificent white sand beach that looks like snow across the road from the campground. Historic Fort Pickens is an easy bike ride or hike from the campground. This was our favorite campground on our cross country tour.

We enjoyed Loop A as it was smaller than other loop. The road in/out was a bit flooded but that is beyond staff control. We toured Fort Pickens and enjoyed tsking our dog on the nature trail.

We have been coming here for close to 10 years. Used to stay on E loop. Now asked to move to A loop for trailers over 26 ft. However, the park refuses to trim the trees enough for trailers to access the sites without possible damage to our roofs from low hanging limbs. Other campers said they were told they will not trim limbs of older trees. Unfortunately, we will probably not return to this wonderful park that we have lived for so many years.

We were understanding when the host came to tell us that a storm was coming and that they were going to have to close the campground for a minimum of 2 days and that it could be longer depending on the weather. We were told that we would receive notification via our email when it re-opened. We never received a notice. Luckily, we had friends staying at Pensacola Beach who drove over to the entrance and learned for us that the campground was re-opening at 2 p.m. If we didn't have our friends to help us, we would never have known if we could return to our site. That was extremely disappointing given we were cooperative and polite when we got the news that we would need to pull out and go somewhere else temporarily. Communication needs to improve for those situations.

I stayed in Loop A . Very well maintained except low dead branches by A23 . Does not take much to rectify that issue with a pole saw . I watched several RV s scraping as they went by . Otherwise everything went well

This is the second time we’ve stayed. We love the campground. Clean restrooms and great beach access. Watching the blue angels practice was a great perk!!!

I was there for the Blue Angels Homecoming show. The location of the campground is perfect for access to the fort for viewing practice days. Also is conveniently located to the beaches for the show. Love Fort Pickens Campground.

Fort Pickens is a great experience for contemplating some military history and exploring a relatively untouched barrier island on the gulf coast. The camping is basic (no playgrounds or other man-made recreation), though offers nice modern bath facilities and laundry. It seems that the camp store is either permanently closed or has a very short season, so any supplies need to be purchased an almost half-hour drive from Fort Pickens so plan ahead! The beach access is excellent - miles of pristine white sand beach to relax and play. Although the campgrounds have boardwalks to get to the beach easily, the boardwalk from Campground Loop A was collapsing and unsafe (Apr 2021). Due to covid, the educational facilities were closed, and although the small visitor center/gift shop appeared to have hours of operation in 2021 it was locked when I visited during the posted hours. There are self-guided materials for touring the fort, however, and many were taking advantage of those. When choosing a campsite, loop A has the larger and more attractive accommodations but is farther from the fort. The other loops have some good sites, but many are barren and a few are unreasonably small. The tent sites look nice and offer more space and privacy. Although none of the RV sites have direct sewer hookups the dump stations are easy to access and never busy and most of the sites do have water hookups.

If you have camping reservations, first you enter the national park to pay your fee, or show your access card. Then about 4 miles down the road you MUST check in at the only house you can see, on the right. The signage is poor, a small sign AT the turn, instead of a bigger more visible sign 500' before the turn. If you miss the turn, it's a hassle to turn around down the road and come back. The other issue we had is the national park is gated with barrier gates at night. If you go to dinner in town, you need a code to get in, which is odd for a national park that "should be" always opens to come and go. I've never see barrier gates at a national park. The code we got from the camp check-in "7912" did not work. Neither of the 2 gates would open. I had to practically break the right hand gate arm to squeeze our little Honda CRV under the gate. The problem could have been the code was never updated, since it's a monthly code, and it was the 1st of the month when it didn't work. I complained of course, and the next night the gate was left open, apparently because it's broke, or not programmed.

The Fort Pickens self tour was very interesting, and the campsites were great. However, since there are no sewer connections at each site, the single dump site for such a large campground (loop B, C, D and E) is often busy in the morning. They really need 3 dumps for all those sites in that large loop. We skipped it due to the long line to wait. If you have the same issue, go to loop A sites and use their dump. There are less sites in Loop A down the road.

Loop A is pretty tight, not recommended for big rigs over 35', and you MUST NOT be over 12' tall, due to some old trees they don't want to cut down. Ridiculous IMO.
