In mid- March the weather is not warmed up much. In spite of that, the facilities were very good. Bath house was clean as was Loop A.

The park itself is beautiful and that is why we keep coming back. It is truly a magical place. The administration of the park is awful, presumably from the top down. You are more likely to have rude interactions with anyone working within the park than friendly ones. If you're lucky it'll be neutral or you can avoid interacting with them completely. There just seems to be a general attitude of hostility towards visitors, and this is glaringly obvious if you have been to other national parks/seashores, or especially the local Florida state parks where people are super friendly. For example, they'll close the bathrooms and dump station without warning or explanation and then get crabby with tent campers who wake up in the morning and ask questions when they find the bathrooms locked. The campground is nice, especially loop A, with plenty of space between sites and a mix of sun and shade. The bathrooms are ok, and the laundry room is a nice amenity. The biggest downside is you have to always be prepared to be kicked out due to weather with no place to go. It's a barrier island, some things are inevitable. But again, don't expect anyone at the park to be sympathetic that you are sitting at a nearby RV park paying $$$ a night waiting to return to your site. Their communication is so awful that they'll oops! forget to send out a notification to campers that they opened back up.

I love camping in this park. I ride my bike, run and hike along the unpaved trail that runs from the ranger station to Fort Pickens. There is a nice bike lane along the road as well. Sunrise and sunset at the beach is a great time to watch shorebirds and diving pelicans. This trip I saw dolphins both in the bay and the Gulf. In the spring there are nesting Osprey all over the island, and Ive seen endangered birds such as Piping plover and the Least tern. So much of the island is natural which I prefer to the highly developed areas on the mainland. Most campers are very quiet. Its a slow-paced place and I always leave feeling much more peaceful than when I arrived.

Showers are very hot but clean. They could use better ventilation. Excellent two weeks!

Love the closeness to the beach. Pls repair the several defective boardwalk boards (safety hazard) from Loop A to the beach. Replace restroom outside burnt bulbs to see at night.
Thank you.

Love this beautiful area. So glad it's a national park to keep commercialization away. Plenty to do: fish, go to beach or explore the fort and museum. There are many walking trails. If you're lucky you may even get to watch the Blue Angels fly! Beware of the mosquitos. Still there in December!

We always enjoy our visit to Fort Pickens Campground. Our only complaint is that it is closed so often because of road flooding.

Stayed in A-Loop in a site limited by height in the middle island. The camper fit the site. The beach is second to none, of course. The trails were surprisingly crowded at times. This campground is nearly always fully occupied, so this is not the quintessential "get away from people" campground. Hookups were fine. Dump station fine, but the hose for rinse out was cut (treadless), so it was also useless for the cause. Boardwalks torn up by 2020 summer hurricanes. Fort visitor station closed due to COVID, but fort open. Main complaint would actually be speeding and rudeness by bicyclists on the Florida Trail. While walking, we would be yelled at, "Move over", or "Look Out". I had my six year old grandson with me and he was almost hit by speeding bicyclists. There are no signs showing that bicyclists need to yield to pedestrians. Bottom line, this made the trails unsafe in narrow areas. Otherwise, nice trip.
