Overall I love this campground but maintenance needs to be done. They have drainage issues when it rains. The showers are not clean. The bathrooms have the wrong toilet seats that dont fit. The boardwalk out to the beach needs repairs.. I have learned sites to avoid because they can flood during the rain season. And I avoid the bathrooms and showers, preferring to use the RV. This just means more frequent trips to the dump station since there is no sewer hookup at the sites.I have been camping and visiting this park for more than 50 years. It is a favorite and I hope they have plans to better maintain it. Lately it is a little worse each time we visit. Not bad enough to give upon it yet, I no longer have high expectations though.

We enjoyed our visit to Ft Pickens Campground. The new picnic tables were very much appreciated and needed. Our Host was very good at making his "rounds" several times a day. We missed having a Ranger anywhere to ask questions about various subjects. We are still confused about the handicapped sites. Are they for just anybody? Can the sites be used for 10 people, two tents, a canopy, two vehicles, and an RV? We observed this at one of the sites. One of the other sites had young people, not handicapped, staying at the sites. We also observed one site with two electric vehicles (Leaf & Tesla) plugged into the power pole box. This was across from the Host and were plugged in for over 24 hours. The Ranger made several passes thru the campground and said nothing to these campers.. It seems that the "rules" don't apply to everyone.

Everything about our campsite, camp hosts, facilities, the fort and trails were perfect. The only disappointment was being told we had to leave for 2 nights due to a storm. In the past when a storm was approaching, we were given the option of staying with the understanding that we wouldn't be able to leave until it was safe to do so and the roads were clear. I am a birder and specifically come to Ft. Pickens during bird migration in the spring. Storms such as the one that forced us to leave have the potential of a bird migration fallout that brings an extraordinarily large number of birds that otherwise wouldn't be seen in such numbers and species. I felt safe staying in the campground and looked forward to this experience. Instead we were forced to travel over an hour north into what became a warning area for tornados in the massive storm that swept the country. It is my understanding that this change came about from the complaints of one camper. I hope consideration can be given to change this policy.

Very nice campground with pristine, white beaches. Plenty of hiking and biking opportunities. Bathhouses are fairly clean, albeit shower spouts are angled too close to the wall (fixed angle). Has laundry machines available. Additional national park entrance fee needed for Fort Pickens, which is a very interesting place to visit, along with the batteries. Situated across a naval base, there's constant jet noise from plane exercises. P.S. Pensacola lighthouse is situated in the naval base, across the bay from Fort Pickens.

This was a wonderful place to camp because of its proximity to the most beautiful beach I think Ive ever seen. If you can get a spot that has vegetation behind it, thats whats best. Other spots feel a bit like you were in a parking lot with no privacy between sites. But in a matter of minutes, you can be hiking on short trails around the area. The vegetation is very unique to this Michigan girl. The white sand sets all the plants off beautifully. The walk to the beach is relatively short, and you can park your car closer to the beach if youd like. The water is emerald green and the beach is impeccably clean. The fact that you can be on this island with no development around is truly a gift. We felt like we were in another world and in another time before all the building of tourist towns began. The camping area was clean and quiet. It appears to be very well run. I think this is a very special place, and would love to return here again. Davis Bayou down the road to the west was not as nice as this place because the beach wasnt as nice. Fort Pickens campground was a true treasure.

Wonderful park! Great trails between the campground and historic sites. Friendly and helpful park staff and campground hosts. Even saw a pair of nesting bald eagles! And sunsets on the beach were gorgeous!

Fantastic Natl Park experience marred only by Rec.gov notifying us that the park/campground was flooded/ closed the day AFTER we made the 4 hour trip with our camper. They really need a better means to notify people ESPECIALLY CAMPERS of park closures than an email dated 4-17 that arrived 4-19! And don't your DARE try to blame my email system. Ever heard of the phone or text message? Could have completely ruined the trip but we were lucky enough to find a private site.

Very scenic and secluded park on the gulf coast. Peaceful and calming.
