Camped in C loop. Roads are a little narrow and may take a little maneuvering to get into your site but worth it.

Employees of the park were friendly and helpful. The campground was clean and well maintained. The only issue was the laundry detergent vending machines were empty but still taking money. We spoke with the campground host and he offered no solution and said it was operated by an outside company. They didnt bother to put an out of order sign on the dispenser. Been a review on Fort Pickens.

Well done. Only issue are bathrooms need updating. Otherwise will go back. Access to the beaches, Ft Pickens, and seeing the Blue Angels made this visit a memorable one.

We camped in a 32 ft 5th wheel and were in site 30 in B loop. You have to make sure no part of your rv or vehicle touches any of the grass around the site. The sites are close, the road in the campground narrow, and it is tricky to back a longer rv in many of the sites. Make sure you have an extension for your power cord...the electric hookup at our site was a long way from the maximum length of our power cord . There is little shade. The bathrooms were very acceptable and clean. All that being said, the location is wonderful. There is beach access right across the opening from the campground. One of the beaches in the park has a lifeguard in the summer. Ft. Pickens is a really cool place to tour. There is a nice fishing pier near the fort. Ospreys nest in the park, and we observed a pair feeding fish to their young. The Blue Angels practice overhead Tuesday and Wednesday from March to November. You can drive to the Pensacola Naval Air Station and watch the practice on site...about an hour drive from the campground. The Gulf Breeze Zoo is nearby. It is the zoo known for evacuating nearly all of its animals during a hurricane and the subject of a documentary :The Little Zoo That Could." Our grandchildren loved the zoo.

We were kicked out due to a storm, but we did not get any notice from the campground. Found out by other campers spreading the word. We also told people that had not been notified. Also did not get any notice when they reopened the campground. Found out on a Facebook page for Gulf Shores. Needs better communication. Need an email on both. Even your phone rep couldnt tell us that the park had reopened on Thursday instead of Friday. Really bad communication.

Great camp hosts, very helpful. Be aware; Park being open is very dependent on good weather.

Fort Pickens Campground is a wonderful location to visit. The camp sites are located within a short distance to the Gulf Islands National seashore and the structures used in costal defense in the early American history. The campground host are cordial and do a good job assisting the NPS in campground. The restrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. Care should be exercised in selection of campsite due to length and height restrictions on campsites. Fort Pickens itself, is interesting to tour. There are self-guided tours and varying ranger tours and programs available depending on timing of visit. The NPS staff are very versed in the history of the fort and surrounding area.

Loved watching the Blue Angels practice. The sites are very nice but it would have been so easy for them to have made the paved area on the sites just a little longer. They are ridiculously short and there was plenty of room to do so. Also , need another laundry room in the loops B, C, D, E. Only one laundry room is sad. We did enjoy the outside area provided to wash our dishes, but the drain pipes under the sink kept coming apart.

Check the schedule for the Blue Angels practice! We saw The Who show from the beach.
Great laundry room and bath/shower house
Take an extension for the electric plug in. It’s a little far in some spots

The spots are close together and not shaded or pretty but the location is spectacular. The RV area is clean, quiet, and well-kept. The Gulf on one side and the Bay on the other along with the Fort and the isolation of the location make for a relaxing getaway.

Ft. Pickens is worth the trip if you are a Civil War buff or into that period fort construction. The campground is about seven miles from civilization out on the strand. The sites are short by today's standards. Our 32' Class C and tow barely fit on the site. Unfortunately for us, five days of constant rain put several of the sites at flood stage. The bath houses are adequate and the dump station is convenient on the way out. Pets aren't allowed on the local park beaches but there is is dog beach not too far from the main Seashore check in point. This was our second trip to the park and we won't be returning. As an aside, it was interesting to see crews using machinery to sift blacktop particles from the sand over several miles along the roadway into the campground. The pieces and particles apparently were created years ago by a hurricane when the road was destroyed. It seems like a waste of taxpayer dollars since there is no way to sift through the acres of beach grasses, only the open areas. There were many more cigarette butts on the ground than pieces of blacktop.

Interesting area to explore, and the most beautiful beaches in the world. Good restaurants are nearby, & plenty to do for everyone! We enjoyed our stay at Fort Pickens, & hope to return in the near future.
