The campsites typically have fairly short paved pads so this can be an issue if you have a toad vehicle in addition to your rig. They are very strict about the toads being parked facing outwards and no part of either vehicle can be parked on the grass. The campground is well-maintained, and there are nice flat hiking trails between Loop A and the rest of the campground, and also leading to the fort area. The pristine beach is an easy walk across the street from the campground. My only complaint is the bathhouses are in very poor condition and really need to be updated.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fort Pickens! Exploring the fort and its history was a lot of fun. We cannot wait to come back next year and stay longer.

Nice people, small campsites, well maintained, all the beach you could want, educational, price is right, bring what you need because it's a long ways to get groceries etc, bring bicycle, I camped in december so it was quiet but I here the summers are very busy.

This a very beautiful and well kept camping area. We arrived late afternoon on Monday with some inclement weather coming through so they had to close the park and camping area at noon on Tuesday but we were able to finish our trip and see the Fort. The Fort did not disappoint.

In general I would say that the Ft. Pickens Campground is excellent.
We are going there for several years now.
Great access to the most beautiful stretch of the beach.
You can watch the Blue Angels there practicing.
But our recent experience was really bad which was related to the evacuation on August 15th due to the approaching tropical depression Fred.
I fully understand and support that we were asked on Aug 14th to evacuate on Aug 15th, as nobody could foresee the extent of any possible impact from tropical depression Fred to the campsite. So far so good.
But I need to say that the aftermath of this entire evacuation action was totally out of scale.
It became clear on Aug 16th that there was absolutely NO impact to Ft. Pickens campground or surrounding beaches. Nevertheless you left the park closed. Why?
The day after Apr 16th surrounding beaches were open, close by campsites didn’t even close at all etc. And you kept us from completing our trip that we had booked.
In my opinion and also from other campers I talked to “absolutely not tolerable”.
We have to book months in advance to get a spot there and we were excited to be there and then you just decide to keep the campsite closed? I don’t get it.
We were first forced to go to Isaac Creek in Alabama from Aug 15th to 17th as this was the closest park outside of any storm corridor and since you left the park closed we were forced to go to Avalon Landing RV and they told us there was no impact from Fred to Pensacola Beach.
So please explain why you left the park closed?

The beach is the most pristine, I have ever seen in Florida. Just beautiful. On the other hand, the bathrooms and showers in this campground need to be bulldozed or at least pressure cleaned. They are dirty at all times of the day. The mosquitos are on a class of their own. The mosquitoes repellent did not help at all.

We have been here every year forb6 years or so. The park was in terrible condition. The camping areas had not been mowed in quite some time. There were huge ruts around each site and there was very little over sight of how many cars were at each campsite making it somewhat crowded in some areas.

Amazingly beautiful campsite. Sites are VERY close to each other. Nice bike trail. We had fire ants and told 2 workers about it. They feigned concern, bit did not address the problem in the 5 days that we stayed.
