A typical weekender and holiday camping spot for the casual camper. They just refurbished the entire area, making road improvement, camp site improvements and bathroom improvements. Fire pits and bear boxes at each site (lock you stuff in bear boxes, as I have had 3 bears in my site during my 30 years of coming up here). Bears scare off pretty easy (they're not here for you, just your food, so make some noise and the black bears will go elsewhere). Be respectful to yer neighbors with noise during quiet period 10pm to 8am.bbq pits available at the sites, I just bring my personal one because I like it with a cover for tri tip. Restrooms near every site, there are showers nearby but may be closed due to covid restrictions (just jump in the lake lol). There is water spigots in the campgrounds, don't believe its potable water. Campground managers have wood available for purchase $8 a bundle but you could walk out to the forest and collect on a day hike if you real wanted. DOWSE YOUR FIRE WITH WATER WHEN YOU LEAVE!

Day time hiking available nearby with a bike/walk path located most campgrounds. Also a good daytime hike is to Basi Falls, where you can park and walk up to the falls (water flow depends on time of year but always water).

A good drive up to destination is a place called Big Hill. It's before you get to union valley reservoir at the four way intersection, on the West side of Icehouse Road where the turn off to Icehouse Reservoir (east side) is located. Road will take you to Big Hill which is the Forestry Tower and Helipad for the area and there is a parking area (handicap accessible) . A walking path (handicap accessible too) to a large lookout platform. It's is feet from the parking area and takes you to an overlook, which gives awesome views of the entire Crystal Basin area (Union Valley, Icehouse reservoirs).

I recommend stopping at a visitor center on your way up to the area and grab a map (provided by SMUD) of the entire crystal basin area. Fr
