It's a large space, private, shady and quiet. Its far from the boat launch. We've not found that to be a problem, however. The south entrance to the campground and boat launch has a huge drop off where the pavement becomes dirt, which has been that way for 2 or 3 years and needs fixed. Also, I was alarmed that there was no notice at the firepit notifying campers of burning restrictions like there has been in the past. I know there was at least one wood fire when we were there and they were banned at the time. Mosquitos and yellowjackets were minimal when we were there.

Site number one is the absolutely best one. No neighbors close by and two sides just woods and shade and nobody

Bathrooms smelled badly inside, and far for the bldgs, too.
No trails of any kind.
No ones fault, but no campfires.

We loved our stay at South Campground. We had site 001 on Loop 1 and it was perfect. It had shade and plenty of area for multiple tents. We kayaked on Hosmer Lake both days, but later in the evening when the launch area wasn’t as crowded. We swam at Elk Lake just up the road. South campground was quiet, relaxing and fairly private. The boat launch and parking get crowded on weekends, but Hosmer Lake is worth it. Definitely recommend this campground to anyone looking for some relaxation in the Cascade lakes region.
