The campground was clean overall, and if a visitor is staying in a motor home or an RV I would highly recommend it as there are impeccable views of the Gunnison River and the night sky. The reason I am giving it such a low rating is not because of the physical aspects of the campground, but the management of the area. As it is a docking site, many boats were docked away from designated areas. This created an issue as many people were parking their boats on grasses and shores close to their campsites, which is not allowed and created an issue for those wanted to use the shores for other recreational purposes. The dry tent sites were very compact and close to one another, and I was a mere few feet away from other campers in their designated areas. In my camping experience at Lake Fork, there were two rowdy groups on each side of my designated camping area who were up partying until late at night. I had gone up to both parties and asked them to be quiet at a reasonable hour, and was surprised by the lack of an enforced quiet hour policy at the campground, especially when the designated camping areas were so close together. Both groups were incredibly rude even after I asked them to be considerate after midnight, which turned my camping trip very sour and led to a poor night of sleep for both me and my partner. If you have a quiet, insulated space or do not mind that kind of atmosphere, then this campground is for you. But if you were looking for a tranquil night under the stars or a place to rest after a long day of driving/hiking/exploring, I would not recommend it for this reason. This was our reason for selecting this site, as it was marketed as a tranquil place to get some rest or camp, but this was unfortunately not the case.

This is a very nice campground, with good facilities for RVs, Tents and boats. We did tent camping in the walk-in area which has a BEAUTUFUL western view over the lake and dam. Very nice sites with level sand/fine gravel pads and a firepit, table. Convenient restrooms. The only thing lacking are showers, but if you are only there a day or so it doesn't matter and the air is so dry you don't get sticky. Convenient to Gunnison for supplies, catching dinner, a bit far from the canyon but not terrible and a beautiful drive.
