Stayed at elk creek campground for 2 nights & it was great. My only complaint is that the site we originally booked (A31) has absolutely NO space for a tent. This site has the best views but its good if you have a car tent. Thankfully, the host Anitta was absolutely amazing and helped us contact recreation.gov to have our site changed. We ended up in site A33 which had more room for the tent and still great views. The restroom facility was clean and extremely convenient. The campground was quiet, and just beautiful. Anitta is without a doubt one of the best hosts weve encountered and she is very friendly and willing to help. I would definitely stay here again. Beware that it can get windy, especially late afternoon and night so be sure to secure all your belongings. Also beware of chipmunks and mice trying to get to your food so keep it secured and dont leave any crumbs around.

Couldnt make it to our reservation due to road construction. We were coming back from Vegas and are not familiar with that side of the state. We werent aware of the road construction and none of our navigations mentioned it. Sadly have no review at this time.

Elk Creek is one of a few camping areas on the dammed up Gunnison River. Loop D has electrical hookups but was pretty full during the week+ we stayed in Loop A. Not busy at all in late September.
The only showers we found were at the attached marina area, and they were closed for the season. Excellent dump and fresh water facilities. Plenty of trash and recycling bins.
We were rather surprised at how full of stringy green crud was in the water when we paddled our kayak in the lakes. Still, they're lovely to behold from a distance and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Most of the campers we shared the campground with were tenters. Wind and rain provided them with challenges, to be kind.
AT&T service was very good. Verizon was nada, nil, zip.
Bathrooms were immaculate. Camp host was not present during our stay.
Gunnison is about 20 minutes away. Crested Butte around an hour. Montrose an hour, but serious road construction going on which could make it much slower during weekdays.

Loved our six days in this campground! Out of all the campgrounds within the Ridgway State Park system, I think Elk Ridge is the nicest (boating and fishing enthusiasts might like the others). The campground is set up on a bluff overlooking the reservoir and mountains; there are shade trees interspersed between the campsites and it seems to get less road noise. It is electric only with convenient water spigots throughout the campground. Verizon signal was good--able to stream Netflix without problem. Campsites are generous and vary in levelness. Do not be fooled by the pull-throughs--they are a bit short and even a 30' Airstream was having difficult time maneuvering into position. It is completely doable (even for larger Class As and Fifth Wheels)--just have to be creative. And watch out for cacti in the grassy scrub between the campsites--one of our dogs stepped on one and that's no fun. Have a great time!
