The new fire pits didn't give off as much heat than the older version that were 90 degree. The new ones sent the heat upwards, but I assume are much safer. Overall, very organized, well communicated by email, and check in was smooth. The camping experience was terrific.

The Russian River Campground, as always, is a very fun place to visit especially if one is planning on fishing for sockeye salmon. Walking to the falls to see the salmon, jumping up is quite the experience. There were also black bears and brown or grizzly bears and moose that were seen on this trip. As compared to past year’s, the camp staff was not as diligent, however, in seeing that there was toilet paper in the latrines, or making sure that the refuse was removed promptly. If bear conservation is important to the park staff then removal of waste from dumpsters, when they get even close to fill, should be a priority. The camp has suffered an enormous die off of trees due to spruce bark beetles. Many of these trees have been cut down, but there were areas where they were left in big piles, which were probably 8 feet high and 10 to 12 feet in diameter and these take away from the ambiance of the camp. Hopefully there are plans to grind these into wood chips so that they do not remain the eyesore that they are presently. And it is also hoped that this year the contractor will be able to complete the work on the entrance road into an out of the camp. Presently it is filled with many frost, heaves and potholes, which made entering and leaving the camp with large motorhomes and trailers very difficult, but despite all these negatives that I have mentioned visiting the Russian River campsite for those who have never been to Alaska, is a must.
