We visited last fall and the grass wasn't cut (site 12) and it wasn't this past week either (13). We brought along a weed whip. The wind and cool weather kept the mosquitoes at bay the first day, but we were swarmed the second and third day. We left a day early.

Great time at Winnie. We loved being able to swim in the lake and bike all around the campground. Only downside was all the bugs.

This is a great rustic campground compared to others. Quiet, no electric, no sewer. Great place to enjoy the outdoors.

Our spot was perfect to accommodate our pooch. It was private by a thick layer of bushes on one side and woods on the other. This made for a perfect place to play with our pup and not worry about disturbing others. At the end of our site was the lake. It wasn't a beach front like I thought it might have been based on the picture, but again it was a perfect setting for our pup to run down the bank and play in the water. I wish there was easier access to hiking trails but nonetheless it was nice to have peace and serenity. It was our first time camping without running water so the outhouse was definitely a new experience. I wouldn't say Winnie Campground is "roughing it", but if you need to be able to flush it down and have a sink to wash your hands, I would suggest a more accessible campground. If that doesn't bother you so much, then Winnie was just fine. Quiet, private, and relaxing.
