Nicole, our new campground host, was awesome! Our family has been camping at the Winnie Campground for decades, so we've seen many hosts come and go. We couldn't have asked for a more friendly, hard working, agreeable person than Nicole. She has the entire campground, including the bathrooms, looking great. Please find a way to keep her coming back. Thank you.

Great week with good weather until the second weekend when the area was hit with a night of thunderstorms. Fishing was good and dining on them was even better. Many different types of birds and waterfowl, along with squirrels and chipmunks. We even saw black bear. Our camp host, Nicole and husband were fantastic, greeting all campers as they arrived, keeping the grounds well maintained and the restrooms maintained twice a day and never short of paper or hand cleaner. As always it is an enjoyable week of rustic camping that I have enjoyed since the year I turned 12 years old. I turned 74 this year.

The sites were the best they've ever been as far as mowing and the campground host Nicole was super friendly. The bathrooms were extremely refreshing as well. The biggest problem was all the bears that were roaming throughout the campsites. We had to make sure we put are coolers in the vehicles so no food was left out. We've never had this big of a bear problem. So I give it a fair because of all the bears and having to keep coolers in the vehicles.

The campground host in the site next to us ran their generator all night every night of our stay saying that they had a medical condition and had to. I have sleep apnea too (the reason why the host said they had to run their generator). I respect the other campers enough to charge a battery that runs my CPAP overnight. Quiet and I can hear loons, water as waves hitting the shore, the birds and woods - - or usually I can until I am told that they have to run their generator over the entire night. Winnie is a primitive campground, I have visited it nearly every summer of my life. Not a nice and recharging vacation when I feel very disrespected by a host that can run their medical device off a battery over the hours that are designated as quiet hours. Choose a better campground host or just not have one as it can truly be a primitive campground. They can run a generator during the day to charge the battery which I did (it takes only a few hours to do this). We as a large family had multiple members that also need CPAP at night and we all used a battery to run our machines. All medical devices are required by law to run from a battery as a backup if the power goes out. Please respect the campers visiting the campground and get a more respectful campground host. I feel like much of my vacation I used to go to this campground this year was mostly wasted as my experience was not pleasant.

The campground host "Nichole" was the best host in over 45 years. the sites and walking trails were mowed and poison ivy free. The restrooms were cleaned every morning and restocked with toilet paper regularly. Please retain her services. Thank You! Charles R. Sonnek

The campground hasnt looked this nice in years. The campground host, Nichol, and her husband have done a wonderful job in the upkeep of the campground. The only downside of our trip were the bears who kept coming into our site even though we had everything bear proofed. They are getting too brave.

We come to Winnie every year. This was our best yet, thanks to host Nicole. She greeted us, made sure we understood campground rules, had our site perfectly prepared for us, and let us enjoy a flawless 2 weeks at the gorgeous Lake Winnie.

Excellent, non luxury campground.

This was a very nice experience this year compared to the last 10 years. The best part was having a campground host that was wiling to mow the grass in the camp sites and walking trails. Keeping the grass shorter was beneficial for keeping the mosquitoes and wood ticks down, and pushing the poison ivy away from our legs. A better job still needs to be done about the poison ivy next to the lake access cement steps. There are several down trees that would be available for firewood if we could only use our chainsaws. Our family has been camping annually on Lake Winnie for over 60 years and regard this place as a tradition that started with our Grandfather, Herbert Bartelt in the 1930's. This year we had almost 60 family members there at one time including brothers, sisters, and cousins. How about having a bathroom at the lake's public access? This would be very well used and appreciated by both the fisherman, campers, and hikers. Keep up the good work!

The new campground host, Mike, made our entire trip frustrating and stressful. It was sad that such a beautiful place had to be "cared for" by such an individual. Our entire group of family members, around 100 of us, most who have been coming to the Winnie Campground for over 40 years, had a less than ideal vacation because of his actions and behavior. We can only hope that the Forest Service doesn't allow him back next season. Please feel free to contact me if you need further clarification on the subject.

Clean, well mowed, etc. Good privacy between sites.

As I had never been to this campground before I chose a spot I thought I would be able to see the lake and site ten was not the right choice for that...lol...but the grounds were clean and a clean toilet so I was happy with my experience

I have never had such a horrible group of people at a campground. The people at site 15 on 7/21/23-7/23/23 were up ALL NIGHT the whole time and yelling over their music and generator. Thee worst experience due to the inconsiderate, rude, loud people next to us. Their pit bull kept coming to our campsite and we would all 4 of us yell that they need to get their dog and they couldn't hear us over their music. Still they never leashed their pitbull. I'm afraid of them and my dog who was leashed up does not like other dogs none the less a pit bull. Dogs are supposed to be leashed and people need to be quiet while others are trying to sleep. Those people need to be banned. I was not able to sleep at all

We had a great time. Our site #19 had awesome trees so solar power was limited but in the end, we like trees. We were not boating or fishing so it made no difference but access to a boat from the site is limited. The shore was boulders buried in long grass. The view of the lake however from our campsite was perfect. It appeared to boaters it was a load-and-unload daily affair.

Lots of bugs. Mosquitos were bad and the biting flies were worse. Active black bear in campground too. I woke up the first morning to a bear on my site. Bear bit the top of RTIC cooler and put tooth holes in the water jug. No bear boxes are provided.

Fishing was terrible. The only thing biting were the biting flies that followed me a few hundred feet off shore.

Shore sites are huge and great with water access. All non shore sites are mostly tiny with room for a tent and car.

No host so people were doing whatever they wanted. Someone brought a couple of 4 wheelers and a loud two stroke mini bike for their kids to drive around all day and through peoples sites. No firewood to purchase but the grass was mowed.

Left a day early. Would not recommend.

It was a wonderful space with deep campsites that had lake access via a walking trail and steps. It was a wonderful place. It was buggy, but that’s what is to be expected and rainy, which was inevitable. Had to not been as buggy and dry it would have been a perfect spot.

The boat ramps were almost unusable. People like this campground for fishing and when you can't do that you won't go back. I have used this campground for over 40 years but I don't know if we will go back.

We visited last fall and the grass wasn't cut (site 12) and it wasn't this past week either (13). We brought along a weed whip. The wind and cool weather kept the mosquitoes at bay the first day, but we were swarmed the second and third day. We left a day early.

The trip this year wasn't so great as we had LOTS of thunderstorms and huge amounts of rain. Ended up cutting our trip short. It would be nice if the campsites were mowed more frequently - especially #13. This is the site we really like but every year that we get there the grass definitely needs mowing. We love camping at Winnie and will definitely be back again next summer.
@AdelineM333991 · Camped on Aug 11, 2022 at Campsite #29
A lot of the campsites have been allowed to grow up with brush and grass. The picnic and bathrooms by the boat landing have been closed down. The lagoon got filled in. It’s just not as inviting as it was a few years ago.
@RyanV8528253 · Camped on Jul 22, 2022 at Campsite #26
Campsite was very nice, beautiful scenery. However there was no host so therefore no firewood to purchase - not a huge deal. The big thing for us was that there was a very large group a few sites over, maybe 15 people between two sites, that partied loudly until about 2/3am every night. Very rude and with no host there our request to them to be quiet after 10pm went unanswered.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
