This is a great park and campground. We have been going here for the past 8 summers, multiple times per season. We have stayed at different sites, but our favorite is B-24. Can't say enough good things about the camp host Mike, great guy always willing to help campers out any way he can. The pond/lake has a beach for swimming, and although I have been told there are fish to be caught in it, I have never seen anyone actually catching any. Best to go down to the Ocoee river for fishing. As far as rafting, there are many companies in the area that offer guided tours on the Ocoee river. (whitewater)Now that that is all said, a warning, the campground is 7 miles up the side of a mountain, it's a long pull on a 2 lane twisty road. Enjoy your stay at Chilhowee, we always did.

Make sure you bring everything you need, it's appr. a 20 mile round trip to the nearest C-Store and probably 28-30 miles to a store.

We arrived this most recent trip on, May 10, 2024. This was just after a huge storm blew through the area, leaving many trees downed in the immediate campground area. The park crews, and the camp hosts all worked incredibly hard to get the downed trees and debris moved to get to and into the park. Kudos to all of you! Also, the electric to the park was down when we arrived, the electrical crews managed to restore all power the next day, Saturday. Yay! All in all, it was a great trip.

This campground is in a very beautiful spot and could be fabulous. Unfortunately, very little has been done to maintain it so its pretty basic and needs some loving repair. We talked with the long-time host and he said the NFS wont budget any money for needed repairs and, despite his ability to do so, they wont allow him to make the repairs, citing the need for NFS certified tradespeople. A sad situation. Several beautiful overlooks are covered with graffiti, again, because of a lack of funding for clean up and maintenance.

My wife and I camped at Chilhowee 9 times over this year. We love this National park/campground, it is our go to spot for camping (we have a trailer) hiking and swimming. Joe, the new camp host (area A&B) who came onboard this past season is informative, helpful and friendly. Couldn't ask for a better host. That all said, there is one thing I would like to point out. Not sure what's happening with the website for reserving spaces, but I seen many times where the site shows just about every site (with Electric) as having been reserved, but when we are there over the weekend, many of these sites sit empty. Now, I get it that people cancel and the website doesn't get updated right away, but that does not explain why the sign at the entrance will say "no vacancy" for electric sites all weekend long, when there are indeed sites available. With the Ranger station not being manned most weekends, nobody is going to make that 7 mile pull up to the park towing their trailers to see if there are any sites available.

While this is a beautiful campground, it is in need of some repairs. Second time we were here and had issues with the dump station and water fill stations either being closed or broken. If you have a big rig, be prepared for low hanging branches. There is no water on the site but there are waterfall stations scattered throughout the campgrounds. Be aware that this campground gets noisy during the weekends. Campground host was very nice and helpful.

The upper campground, areas A and B have a new host this year, Joe. We met him when he stopped by on our last trip to Chilhowee, nicest guy you'll ever meet.

This was our first trip on our new Camper. Our camp site was B-24, We had electric hook up, no water hook up but were able to run a short hose from a water spigot very nearby and fill our fresh water tank. Spots at this camp are spacious and at a reasonable distance from all neighbors. There were several nice trails and points of interest my dog and i enjoyed. The camp area was nice and all campers were respectful of other's space. Definitely will return to this camp. The park hosts were nice and checked on us or rounded frequently on the campground.

Nice campground with hiking trails in the area. Many sites with good spacing between neighboring sites. Road leading to campground and campground roads not for large RVs. Bathrooms need to be refurbished.
