It's a lovely area and the sites are large and private. Unfortunately, this spring, with so much rain there was standing water in some of the sites, and the mosquitoes were terrible. There was also a bumper crop of army worms dangling down from the trees and they got on everything, including us. As a result, we were unable to enjoy the outdoors for most of the week. But we had a fun time at the winery in Withee and spent some time looking around Medford. I highly recommend this campground in dry times, but check about the water and bugs before going so you are prepared.

Sites are nice, having one with lake access is wonderful for taking out our canoe. This campground could easily be five stars if they simply cleaned the bathrooms. They were not cleaned during our Thursday-Sunday stay and were disgusting. There were cobwebs all over in the toilet stall and shower, floor was wet from a leaking toilet. We tried using one of the other restrooms but it was just as bad. No hand soap or paper towels/hand dryer available. The host site was messy/cluttered with outdoor storage and looked like a permanent residence.

This is a large electric site with a short path to the lakeshore. The restroom is nearby. Showers cost $1. A vending machine takes coins or bills and delivers shower tokens. Shower was nice and hot. Water faucet is near rest rooms.

Thete is a small beach, but when we were there, the water was muddy and full of algae, so we didn't swim. There are also a lot of Chinese mystery snails, so we washed out kayaks before using them anywhere else.

We enjoyed several hiking trails nearby, especially the Ice Age Trail. We drove to Mondeau Dam one day, and we went to Gilman, where we found basic groceries and good sandwiches at the diner.

Just a couple of miles from the campground, there's a bar that sells ice and has decent food.

All in all, this was a great place to spend a few laid back days.

Pros: we camped in almost complete isolation, except for the camp hosts in their "permanent" lodging barely visible through the trees. The location was quiet and offered nice lake views after a short tramp through the woods.
Cons: we had a difficult time finding the campground due to its remote location, and also because the posted directions called for the forest road to be 24 miles West from Rt 13, when it was in fact 19 Miles. The sign identifying the road was also tiny and very easy to miss. Luckily, the local bartender was able to give good directions. Also, there was a power hook-up present, but not switched on, which I thought our $25 fee covered.
Note: the location of the forest road is 19 Miles West of Rt 13 and 5 Miles East of Rt M. Keep your eyes out for a Forest Service Campground sign. "Chippewa" does not appear on the sign!!
