We love Catoctin Mountain National Park. Be aware cycling on the surrounding hills is demanding. Either be in excellent physical condition, or bring an ebike!

I really like this campground and how many hiking/biking trails it contains nearby. Two items of constructive criticism. First, I don't understand why only one car is allowed. If you're meeting someone there and driving from separate places, you have to have two cars. Two cars fit fine at the campsites. So why the manufactured limitation to one car? Second, the dogs at this campsite were extremely annoying. There was at least one that barked its head off all evening, and starting again early the next morning. This is the responsibility of the people who brought the dog, not on the Park Service. But I do think having a ranger or a campground host to ask the guest to keep the noise in check would have greatly helped the experience. Sadly we live in a time where social norms are unraveling around us, and I'd be willing to bet that 20-30 years ago the owners would have been ashamed of the barking and would have actually tried to quiet the dog. But alas. As things go, it would have been nice to have some official supervision to keep noise in check.

We tented at sites 50 and 39. Both were good. Bath & utility facilities were well maintained. Firewood on site was perfect. Will comeback.
